Re: NMU vs. Miami

Huh? Last I heard Joe's still there, just in a different place...

Joe's gone. Your source sucks. ;)

Moon Township, Pa. – On Thursday, Derek Schooley, head coach of the Robert Morris University hockey team announced the addition of two assistant coaches to his staff. Joe Shawhan and Matt Nicholson will join the Colonial hockey program immediately to begin preparation for the 2009-10 season.

Thanks redhawkman10, I didn't know Weber personally when I was lived in TC at the time, but I knew the entire theft accusation wasn't anything remotely resembling Weber's character. It must have have been a setup. I kind of question his draft ranking in 2007, but it looks like the Bluejackets have a nice project with Weber. Its kind of nice to hear a Northern Michigan local kid playing D1!

Re: NMU vs. Miami

I'm thinking that maybe Cherniwchan needs to sit a few games. After all, if he's not playing he can't take stupid penalties.

Re: NMU vs. Miami

What are you, daft? Do you seriously think rankings don't matter? Rankings matter A TON! They matter because they give you a gauge on which to measure the competition you are playing. If you are going to sit around and make ignorant statements like "rankings don't matter", you are going to end up straight in the "NMU Mediocrity Hall of Shame"

I support NMU mediocrity :D

Re: NMU vs. Miami

That was honest to god the worst officiating I have ever seen. The cherny major was BS, especially after that no call after Florek got cross-checked into the goal. The cross-check on Florek was a major by any definition, and there wasn't even a minor called on it. Had it not been for the major on Cherny this would have been a W. I think we win tomorrow night, after tonights momentum!

While I applaud the effort, I have to disagree. It is as clear as night and day in the rule book. The kid grab the face mask and threw it, by definition that is a major any way you hack it. Also I agree the cross check should of been a penalty it wasn't a major. You aren't going to get a cross checking major unless it's to the head.

Based on what was said on the NMU broadcast, the bad officiating went both ways. According to that broadcast, there were at least two times in the third period alone that there were missed calls on NMU.

My question on that call (I didn't see it on the video) is what is the distinction that made it a 5 instead of a 2?

Nice life in the 3rd, but they didn't have life in the 2nd, even before the major.

Reid with the start tomorrow?

I agree. The missed call on the cross-check on Florek was crazy though. And it WAS a major, it was if nothing else a major roughing after the whistle penalty. I was in a bad position to see if Cherny threw the helmet, but I saw nothing that resembled a major in my opinion. Had I reffed any game like that, I would have easily been fired. There was absolutely NO consistency.

Re: NMU vs. Miami

Thoughts:

First and Third periods played by the 'Cats were solid. The third period push may be the turning point of the season, like with what we saw vs. Wisconsin last year.

Second Period: Different story. Its hard to score when you are shorthanded. The Five min Major, Game DQ..Im not sure how bad it was. Chewy, from what I saw and maybe I didnt see things right...Didnt rip off the facemask. But maybe I had my players confused.

The Cross Check to Florek...Im not sure what the ref was looking at, because he clearly saw the play. He got the faceoff loction right and made a motion that he was crosschecked into the post so the faceoff is in the zone. Usually, when you are "Crosschecked" into the post its a penalty? Otherwises crosschecking wouldnt be listed as a minor in the rule book. But hey, Its CCHA reffing, love it or hate it, we should all be used to it by now.

Lets Go Cats!

Re: NMU vs. Miami

Grabbing the facemask and pulling the helmet off is an automatic 5 min. major. There is no gray area to make it a 2 min. minor.

Florek getting crosschecked into the post should have at least been 2 minutes.

Don't forget about the blatant no call that came 30 seconds before the NMU 3rd goal. So take those both back, and its still a Miami W.

My fav call was the goalie interference on Florek. He went over to Walt to explain it and motioned with his arms like he (Florek) got his arms up too high. The guy is 6'4 without skates. Granted it was on the other side of the ice but maybe the people at home can tell me if that was a good call?

I was right behind the goal when that happened... and I didn't see anything that would be considered goaltender interference. Oh noes... goalie can't see... *whistle sound* ... oh noes... nmu player closer than 3 ft... *whistle sound*

I was in the student section, but it was not a good call in my opinion. About half of the penalties on NMU would have never been called had I been reffing; I would have called some though that they missed, there was no consistency. I liked that when I yelled at the refs before they came out for the third that Hill actually tried to explain to me the major....you don't do that as a refferee unless you are fairly certain you're wrong...
