NMU vs. Miami

Re: NMU vs. Miami

Alot of stupid penalties? On Saturday there were only 4 minors whistled against NMU. That hardly qualifies as "alot," of penalties, stupid or otherwise. Played up or played down? Rubbish! Two teams played an outstanding weekend of college hockey. Did my team win? No. But they played well. Excuses? None needed. Miami not on their "A" game? That had entirely everything to do with the way NMU played them. NMU had an outstanding game plan. They battled hard. That's why Miami's A game was off.

Did it have to do with the way NMU played, or the fact that half of Miami's team had the FLU AND WE STILL COULDN'T BEAT THEM!!!

Anytime you get called for too many men on the ice, it's a stupid penalty that falls on the coaching staff.

Sugarcoat it anyway you like Dave, say they played well, but the end result was still ANOTHER LOSS!!!!

6 GAMES INTO THE SEASON AND ONLY 1 VICTORY TO SHOW FOR IT!!!

Re: NMU vs. Miami

The flu heading around Northern's campus is no joke. I heard from a professor that a poll is being takin of all the professors on how many people have been missing campus, if the average number of students missing class goes up much more campus is going to be shut down.

Rumor has it that the flu has been bouncing aroung the GLIAC this season, and that GV had a few guys out because of it. I would bet that several guys on the football team will come down with it.

Hell of a squad NMU has this year. Next year they're going to be very scary.

Re: NMU vs. Miami

Too many men the coach's fault? It's not as if they had six skaters out in the middle of the ice. NMU was in the midst of a line change and Miami player sent the puck into the bench area, where it hit an NMU player and the call was made. NMU did the same thing last week to Bemidji. Maybe the Bemidji coach should have immediately tendered his resignation. Please explain exactly how it's the coach's fault. How would you change that occurrence? What exactly was the coaching error? Sugar coating? That's an insult. If I feel the team isn't playing well I say it. All you have to do is listen to a game to realize that. If a player takes a foolish penalty, I'll say it. And also please tell me just how many sick players were in the lineup for Miami. How many of those in the line up were of concern? How key were the missing players to the Miami lineup? It was "half the team." I can tell you exactly who was out and who they were concerned about that suited up. But I'm sure you already know.

Rico said in the post game that half of his team was throwing up before the game. Perhaps that was an exaggeration...

I will take my statement back on the penalty, I wasn't aware that it went down like that. Most of the time its easy to blame that on the coaches and the shift changes.

Regardless, we still got swept at home and the schedule doesn't get any easier the next 6 games. We will be lucky to win one of those.

Re: NMU vs. Miami

Too many men on the ice calls really are not the coach's fault most of the time. Coaches don't actually micromanage all the players and call for all line changes. It's not the Mighty Ducks here. Players know when they should change and who they will be changing for and sometimes **** just goes south

Re: NMU vs. Miami

So, Do you want to go Independent and play a soft schedule so we can have a better record? I mean we play in the CCHA. Its a tough schedule, maybe we can switch to AHA and play UConn, or AIC to apease Billy

Only if I can win an AIC jersey like Dirty did.

Re: NMU vs. Miami

Bottom line... special teams is the reason for what happened this past weekend. Northern needs to work on both the pk and pp and develop a better strategy for both. They constantly allowed Miami to crash the net when on the pk which allowed goals, while just taking few shots from the blue line on the pp and never crashing the net.

No need to apease me. I am happy to be in the CCHA. What I want are wins and not excuses.

I dont think you need to make any excuses. NMU played great, and if that was against any other team not ranked #1 in the nation, I think we'd have 3, and maybe 4 points from the weekend.

Okay, so you're making excuses. We lost because we couldn't keep up with a team ranked #1 in the nation. Just own it and move on.

Matt tomassoni was out of the line up and Connor Knapp due to the flu. Will Weber, Carter Camper, Gary Steffes, Tommy Wingles, Curtis Mckenzie, Vincent Loverde all played and have had flu like symptoms.

So not half the team, but some key players played at not 100%, but a lot of teams are having issues like these so not sure how much of a difference it made. Miami didn't play well the whole weekend, but they have yet to put an entire game together all season. Goaltending was the reason Miami won this weekend. NMU carried the play at time, but it from the sounds of it that was the best they had played all year.

Either way, Dave, and a few others who are loyal supporters GL the rest of the way, I hope we don't see you again.
