NMU Fans: The Worst in College Hockey

Re: NMU Fans: The Worst in College Hockey

It's kinda funny that live chickens getting snuck into games gets brought up when Miami comes to town :p

You know why Wildcat fans should be football fans?? Because if the football team hadn't dropped 2 straight games in the GLIAC the past 2 weeks, BWK and Billy here would be all over D2Football.com this week giving GVSU fans the business about how the Cats are going to beat the Lakers this weekend, and you guys wouldn't have been dealling with about 5 threads about how Kyle should be fired. ;)

You just gotta figure their simple minds can only run with one silly arguement at a time you know. ;) :D

The worst behaved are by far Cornell followed by Michigan fans who have a computer chip inplanted in them, where every cheer is a set play and all seem to be controlled by a leader who sits on top of the scoreboard with a joy stick to control them......they yell "Go Blue" and the team is all in yellow !!!!!

Oh darn. And I thought we were the worst fans EVER. I guess this would make sense if we were chanting Go Green. Go White. In monotone. All while wearing Maize. And eating black tacos (tacos, tacos, tacos.)

So where does this rank the puckheads again?

No that's a phenomenon peculiar to Crisler - ie. you see Maize but you hear the above chant

Re: NMU Fans: The Worst in College Hockey

Maybe the NMU fans should embrace this title. Get t-shirts made that say "Worst Fans in College Hockey", think of some chants that would announce to the world that you are the worst. Have some fun with it!:p

I actually think a group of fans with shirts that said "worst fans ever" would be hilarious! Do it!

Re: NMU Fans: The Worst in College Hockey

I wonder how many empty seats there will be at the game tonight? 1,000, 2,000? As much as the OP is an asshat, that's one thing they were correct about. Student support at the games is abysmal, and community support isn't any better. And before any of you puckheads jump down my throat, you guys aren't as strong a section as you used to be either.

I remember when Mojo, et. all. were the core group for the puckheads. Those guys knew how to get the whole student section into the cheers. Now, it seems that the puckheads do a great job getting sections 16 and 17 involved in the game and the cheers, meanwhile 14,15, and 18 (I think I have the numbers right - i'm talking about the student sections that are off on the sides of the student section) just sit on their hands and don't give two craps. They go to the hockey games to see their friends. A message to any puckheads on here: Tonight, try your hardest to get ALL of the student sections involved in the cheers. A huge game like tonight's and tomorrow's is a one-time chance to get the entire student section riled up and show all the freshman how to act at a hockey game. It will be very hard to get those bums to stand up and cheer, but try your hardests.

Re: NMU Fans: The Worst in College Hockey

We need to bring Commeavehuskie back to do the official ranking of college hockey fan bases. But we should wait until we have enough beer or the Phillies win the World Series.

That has never been a "phenomenon". It happened at Yost back in the day, and that changed, just like the tide at Crisler is changing. Of course, we could also talk about the Munn Mausoleum, too, especially last season. Better than the library according to some of your own fans, except for the "fire Comley" chants. Night and day compared to Breslin, which is truly a phenomenon... or is it just fair weather fandom?

This is fun....Cornell is ideally where I'll attend Grad school. I'll go from one "worst fan in college hockey" to another.

And wow, finally a sensible idea not hell bent on the firing of Walt Kyle. Maybe you do have some sense. I actually think this is a pretty good point and idea. I am not a puckhead, but am always in 16 on the right of the tunnel making a ton of noise (I actually convinced a better portion of ASNMU, which I'm on, to both go to the hockey game as a group AND pregame at my place....), but the peripheries tend to be fairly quiet, and it would be great to get them pumped up and loud tonight!

An A for effort, but come on, its Halloween weekend. Most of the regular students are probably going to be off at some halloween parties this weekend. Or oggling some girl that they see in their classes at the time but never noticed until now because she's bearly wearing anything for her costume. ;)

:D I'm merely making an observation ... but it was only via television. It could have been something piped in to keep the advertisers happy - ala CBS with the misplaced bird calls at the Masters.

Yeah, I know that a lot of students will be distracted by other things. That's a shame. NMU vs. Miami in the Berry should have the same feel as a Big Ten Football game. Students should be out tailgating and having fun hours before the puck drops. The student section should be on their feet for the game and cheering their lungs out. In my 5 years at NMU, I missed 5 home games total. Four of those games fell over break and the other one I had a family commitment that I couldn't break. I know that people have jobs, family, friends, but if I can go 5 years and only miss a handful of games, I would hope that 2,000 (approx. number of student tickets NMU has to give out) students could show up for one of the biggest games of the year.

I also want to clarify what I wrote about the puckheads. I sounded like a dick before. THe Puckheads and the band are the two biggest student supporters of NMU hockey. The games wouldn't be the same without them. I just wish the Puckheads would try to be more inclusive. Any Puckheads reading this, over the past 5 years, enthusiasm among the general student population at NMU has shrank. If you get the freshmen involved now, you can get them hooked for life - that is what happened to me. Try "adopting a freshman" - find a group of freshmen who may be sitting in one of the less active sections and bring them over by you guys. Or, have groups of puckheads go to the bottom of the aisles and try to teach everyone the cheers.

Last season, about 15-16 games into the season I went to a game and sat next to two freshmen girls. They said they had been to every game, and still didn't know the exact words to all the cheers. I let them know what the words were. The Puckheads (if they are to be the ambassadors of NMU hockey like they wish to be) need to be making sure that fans know the words to the chants and songs.

Re: NMU Fans: The Worst in College Hockey

Someone at NMU should type up all the words to the chants and leave them on the seats 30 minutes before game time. You really only need to read them once to memorize them.
