Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Tell me where I said, anywhere, that racism is just white people? That's neither my intent nor the statement nor its implication. Congratulations, you just scored a natural hat trick in paranoid leaping to conclusions! :)

You may listen to (or host) talk radio too much to remember, but that sort of "I'm going to assign your words an alien meaning and then run wild with it!" makes no headway with people with IQs greater than a lamppost. And you've already got the lampposts on your side, so you're not growing your audience.

"My bigotry isn't bigotry, it's the truth" Neat. Tidy. Typical.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

I find it ludicrous that comments about being white and privileged have managed their way into this discussion. I'm far more socially liberal than otherwise, but either way it has zero value in debating the facts of this shooting. You'll never see me post this kid deserved to die, I felt Martin was murdered by Zimmerman, and I sure as hell will never be confused for a fundie. Either the cop fired in error or he didn't, my social and economic makeup be ****ed. Some of you need to get over yourselves and your arrogant psychoanalysis. When did someone like Priceless become an expert in life as a black living in America? What does my supposed lack of understanding have to do with facts presented so far in this case? Because I feel the rioters were doing more harm than good I'm out of touch? I didn't say I don't comprehend their anger, I don't agree with the method to express the anger. Whatever, appealing to sensibilities has never been a reality here.

I have never said white privilege. In fact, I don't think you've seen me refer to color at all. There are wealthy people from all races, creeds and colors (I believe the richest man in the world is no longer a white guy) and there are plenty of poor people across the spectrum. It's about economics, not race. However, it is odd that so many black kids are killed by white cops (justified or not) but white people are allowed to "open carry" and even go so far as to point their guns at police officers and face no repercussions. If a black man tried that "open carry" crap he'd be as dead as Dillinger within a few minutes of leaving his house. This afternoon I posted about a black man in Louisiana who was handcuffed in the back of a patrol car, shot in the chest and it was ruled a suicide. I really, really want someone to explain that one.

I don't claim to be an expert anymore than you or OP or anyone else. I am allowed to express my opinion the same as anyone else on this board. However I have actually lived with a black family and worked in the neighborhoods of Dorcester so I think I bring a perspective others in this forum lack. If anyone else has lived and worked in those neighborhoods, I would love to hear about it. I have also worked in the healthcare industry with low-income seniors (poor white people - go figure!) and heard firsthand their stories of hardship. I have not posted in my own words about the riots, but I have posted the words of community leaders who have not only said it is counterproductive, but engaging in that activity is no longer about justice. If the parents of Michael Brown are remaining peaceful, there is no reason for anyone else to partake in violence. And there's no justification for stealing basketball shoes or a six pack of beer. At the same time, it would've been better for all involved if the police hadn't shown up looking like they were patrolling in Gaza.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

We've spent trillions in the "war on poverty (going all the way back to LBJ giving the Blackstone Rangers a million bucks). What has it gotten us?

I'll see your War on Poverty and raise you the War on Drugs and the War on Terrorism.

Declaring "war" on something is stupid, whether it is poverty, terrorism or drugs. They are all foes that will never be defeated. Capitalism is set up so there will always be winners and losers. There will always be a sizable underclass (the world needs ditch diggers). Drugs are something the people want. Sure, there's plenty of people who oppose it when it's something that grows in the ground (like marijuana) but if a pharmaceutical company concocts it in a lab and gives it a name like Valium or Ritalin it's entirely acceptable. And I don't think anyone wants to discuss the game of Whac-a-Mole (tm Scooby) that is the War on Terror.

To summarize: "Everyone's entitled to post their opinions here. But mine are more relevant, because. . . ." We know, we know, some of your best friends are. . .

"I haven't posted my opinions on the race rioting in Ferguson" is an intellectual dodge.

The rioting, arson, looting and random shootings were the cops' fault, got it. Except no rioter was injured in any way by the cops. That leaves us with "peaceful" rioters, so upset with the gear the cops were wearing that they turned around, went home, got a bottle, filled it with gasoline, returned and threw it at the officers. Makes perfect sense. . .in Excuseland.

The sample size in your hysterical anecdotes is a bit small (how many black kids are killed by white cops? And how many black kids are killed by other black kids?). But a tiny sample size isn't enough to preclude you from jumping to the customary conclusions.

Just once I'd like to see you stick to the subject. You're the one who talked about "pitiful entitlements"(accompanied by your customary anti-capitalist blather). The fact is we have spent and continue to spend trillions of dollars to help the less fortunate. And have virtually nothing to show for it. And that is unrelated to the use of the term "war" to describe a heightened federal effort against either drugs (what do you know, more anti-capitalist blather?) or terrorism. Also unrelated to whether those programs are desirable or efficacious.

You're so right. My opinions aren't nearly as important or as relevant as your insightful posts. I am so sorry for wasting your time.

If everyone didn't think their opinion mattered this would be an empty forum.

You really aren't capable of responding to the point made, are you? It's all attitude, diversion and smarmy bull sh*t with you. You're the one who talked about having a perspective the rest of us "lack." Remember?

Doesn't everyone think their opinion is more correct than the a55hole sitting across the table from them? Happens every day in business.

OP just loves to be Juror #3. It's his mantra. Kepler and Priceless are either #8 or #9, depending on the time of day.

Nah, I identify with Juror #6 (Edward Binns).

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Priceless, I couldn't care less about your supposed experiences with blacks. You have no idea about the city I live in nor anything about the racial makeup of the people I employ. If you want to trot or the, "some of my best friends are black" shtick you've got nothing to offer that I don't know. You're condescending, smarmy and too often think anyone that disagrees with you automatically must be less informed.

And last time I checked CCW is a color blind law, but you're right you'd never bring race into the discussion.

The point is the war on drugs and the war in Iraq have been far less effective and cost way more money. And yet you support them.

Not sure what would have to happen for you to consider the war on poverty a success? Would we have to completely eliminate poverty in an economic system in which that's not possible?

With all the illegal weaponry out there, I want my police force with as much gear as possible.

And what Slappy said about the people I associate with, have had experiences with, etc. You spouting your stuff about that is like me saying "I was good friends with a brotha who insisted I call him 'my ni**a' when introducing him to others." (my white friends all refer to each other as "my boys," as in "this is Joe, he's my boy.")

Capitalism is set up so there will always be winners and losers. There will always be a sizable underclass (the world needs ditch diggers).

Priceless, you seem like a pretty smart person just like most of the people in this thread but this statement above has me a bit befuddled. Are you saying that having a sizable portion of "losers" or "ditch diggers" = capitalism is a zero sum game or this system of government is rigged? What do you mean by your statement there? It seems to me there hasn't been a system of government invented where the results are winners all around (whatever your definition of winner is, I guess I should wait for your definition of both winner and loser).

Capitalism, when done right, will always have people above and below average, with a majority being in the middle (nature of the game). In its TRUE UNADULTERATED (cannot stress that enough) form, communism is the only place where everyone is a winner. However, greed (which is, IMO, human nature) ruins that concept in a split second, if not sooner.
