That question is bigger than any one case. It seems to be the question we all wonder every time we hear about an officer that used lethal force in a situation that may not have required it (jury's still out on this one). We all get that cops have very difficult jobs, and even when they aren't doing it well, they deserve to be cut some slack for how the do their jobs (to a certain extent). But lethal force is an irreversible choice, and the road to justify it can get murky.
It's all tied pretty directly to the one and only important question that needs to be answered in Ferguson: Why was lethal force used here? For obvious reasons, we need to hear it from a source besides an annoyed community with an axe to grind, because their version of the story has yet to gibe with the few facts that have been released.
I'm sure the taser question will get answered.
