Nice Planet XI: Stop the World, I Want to Get Off!

Re: Nice Planet XI: Stop the World, I Want to Get Off!

Disagree. The ROTC program has produced a lot of productive citizens. It's still a legit way to help pay for college and have a guaranteed job upon graduation. Your perception is that it disproportionately "forces" the poor and less intellectually gifted into military service to get ahead. However, I would rather see someone go through ROTC than take out $50,000+ in loans.

Fortunately, neither was a choice I had to make.

Not only that, I recall a former women's hockey player that also was ROTC, and graduated as a lieutenant.

The Nittany Lion in 2014-15 was Navy ROTC and IIRC went to sub nuke school after graduation.

I knew a kid who had to make both choices. Failed the physical exam (which he had like two years to get ready for) and was kicked out. Evidently you have to repay past tuition if you get dropped from the program.

As I recall, at the service academies you can flee (as Kep calls it) after 2 years. Once you sign the commitment letter in year 3, short of dying, you'd better graduate or you will owe Uncle Sam the cost of your "free" education.

Re: Nice Planet XI: Stop the World, I Want to Get Off!

No charges in the Jamar Clark case here in Mpls. Evidence strongly supports what the police had been saying all along, and shows that 'eyewitness' accounts of Jamar being handcuffed and executed were just as ludicrous as they sounded. Despite that, early reports from downtown are that people are already 'gathering.'

Going to be a long day or two.

Re: Nice Planet XI: Stop the World, I Want to Get Off!

It sounds like he didn't have any bruising on his wrists which indicates he was not cuffed at the time of the struggle. For me, that was the most ****ing evidence. The DNA on the gun could go either way. I don't believe the prosecutor mentioned where on the gun the DNA was located. If it was all over the gun in a pattern that would indicate he had a grip on it, then that's a little different.

I listened to part of the "press conference" or whatever it was on the radio when I ran out to get some lunch. It was notable that some woman was absolutely not going to let Freeman respond to her "questions" but she was just going to keep ranting her position and repeated accusations against the police.

Even without that Jamar Clarke was beating his girlfriend and was preventing the paramedics from doing their job. This is not the guy the BLM movement should be holding up as the rallying cry. I may agree with their overall point but they picked the way wrong mascot and as evidence started to trickle in it became pretty ****ed obvious.

That's enough for me. Although I would think they could have used one of those stun guns on him instead. But, still, he basically took his chance and it cost him his life.

Agreed. Bad horse to hitch your wagon to.

Agreed on both accounts. But in the heat of the moment when there's a struggle for a gun, I really find it hard to fault the officers.

For everyone, here's the Hennepin County website with all of the evidence posted:

Re: Nice Planet XI: Stop the World, I Want to Get Off!

Love that Clark's cousin is still saying the DA and cops are lying and fabricating evidence, i.e. Clark being suicidal.
Sadly knew this would happen if they weren't charged and BLM got "justice."
Nothing else would have stopped this.

Re: Nice Planet XI: Stop the World, I Want to Get Off!

Add to that: the protesters want "justice." I think they are confusing that with another word: "Conviction."

If I heard correctly, 54 videos are available to see, and NONE are conclusive. Also, something like 1300 pages in the report are available to read.

I will give credit to the protesters today, as I have not heard of any problems (blocking traffic, destruction of property, etc).
