Nice Planet X: I knew it, I'm surrounded by a-holes!

Re: Nice Planet X: I knew it, I'm surrounded by a-holes!

People, this is the kind of pseudoscience crap that leads to people with an actual disease being ostracized or the disease being completely dismissed. This can be as dangerous or even more dangerous because people with legitimate mental illnesses no longer get treatment. It's the same crap that caused infectious diseases we haven't seen in decades come back in full force.

Yes, because your brother doesn't have it, no one does.

This. Sure there are plenty of cases where Johnny just needs a swift kick in the ***. but there are real mental issues out there that range from quality of life to learning disabilities to minor behavioral issues to developmental issues like Downs and autism to dangerous predilections and lack of control.

It's easy to write off even the most minor or mis-diagnosed disease unless you live with it. All of the myths dissolve and **** becomes pretty real, pretty fast.

You refer to his post as 'pseudoscience crap', but you took it upon yourself to make a hasty generalization about it and say because he gave one example, he must think that about all people diagnosed with something. Now there's a load of crap. You then make your last statement, taking the same concept and generalizing once again: I live with this, therefore any thought otherwise is a 'myth'. Please.

You honestly don't think there's any sort of over-diagnosis going on, especially with stuff like ADHD and autism? Come on...

Re: Nice Planet X: I knew it, I'm surrounded by a-holes!

Statistically speaking sure...but not nearly as much as some of you believe. I would bet it was more likely underdiagnosed up until now.

Re: Nice Planet X: I knew it, I'm surrounded by a-holes!

Follow the money.

Bingo.

Although it's not ENTIRELY money related; there are adverse side effects. We've seen stories about how too many vaccinations at once make children autistic, Roundup's chemicals are causing cancer, RF from cell phones cause brain damage, the list goes on and on. Whether or not you believe these hypotheses to be true with or without adequate research is your prerogative, but it may want to be considered as a possibility, especially if what Handyman is saying in that more people truly have these problems is in fact a true statement.

One thing that cannot be denied, though, is that psychiatric medication has been involved in most of the mass killings within the past few years.

Yeah, and fire trucks always seem to be at fires. What's THAT about?!

After every mass killing (at least as of recent), I'm finding reports that the accused assailant was on psychedelic drugs. That's what brought up the discussion in the first place. As much as you want to blame the instrument of destruction (which would be akin to you saying that fire trucks cause fires because they happen to be there), those of us not brainwashed by the mainstream narrative are actually looking at mental health being the concern.

That's a perfect analogy, because fires kill people by driving fire trucks over them.

Psychedelic drugs? You understand that they're not the same as psychotropic drugs, right?

You just don't get it, do you?

He said he agreed with a post that stated:
Let's take one look at what's happened with parenting over the last 30 years: Kid's a little hyper? Drug it. Kid won't sit down? Drug it. Kid's talking too much? Drug it. Cases for ADD have gone up exponentially, as it helps to fund big pharma.

Oh, and guess what all the mass shooters in the past few years have in common. I'll give you three guesses, but you'll only need one.

So yeah, pseudoscience bulls***t.

Handy is likely far closer to the actual situation:

Statistically speaking sure...but not nearly as much as some of you believe. I would bet it was more likely underdiagnosed up until now.

Re: Nice Planet X: I knew it, I'm surrounded by a-holes!

Honest question: who?

I'm not dismissing anyone who has a true problem. I do have questions regarding how quickly a parent or person will just "medicate" without really making sure there's an issue there.

You said you would almost start in on big pharm companies, but then let them off the hook. They're far more dangerous than any other party regarding the topic of over-medication. And as Kep noted I recognize the doctors are just as complicit, but only because someone is willing to pay them.

So Dr. how many of these sick people are actually not sick and just over medicated because of Big Pharma? Please cite your sources especially all those studies you reviewed..I will hang up and listen.

Look back. I said I won't start on the big pharm angle. My point is with the people/patients who feel that "there's a pill for that," and don't get second/third opinions, exhaust all options, etc. In the case that I stated (my bro), my parents took him to a couple doctors, had him go through tests, etc.

They could have easily said, "Hey, there's a pill for his behavior" and left it at that.

THAT'S the issue I have with meds (or rather, the attitude towards meds).

Re: Nice Planet X: I knew it, I'm surrounded by a-holes!

Lol. And it's still completely misinformed. Almost comically so.

I'm sorry. How is making sure that meds is the answer, that there are no other options, being misinformed?

Get all info.
Weigh options.
Proceed with best option.

Yeah, that's being uninformed.

Edit: if the best option is indeed taking meds, so be it. But look into all the options first. That's all.
