Grab some popcorn! Obama is reportedly going to Roseburg on Friday, but the publisher of the local paper told O'Reilly tonight the county commissioners, the sheriff, police chief and most of the residents don't want him to show up.

I dated a woman who grew up not far from Roseburg. It's herpy (lumber town) but not insanely so -- they hate environmentalists and they're really racist but they still have olde tyme blue collar allegiance and they think fundies are idiots. I'd be surprised if there was overwhelming opposition to Obama coming -- it's more likely the outspoken politicals in the area (the sheriff is supposedly a Sandy Hook Truther).

Oh, and the Westboro wackos are also planning to picket the funerals.
Do they not want him to show up because politics, or because logistics and privacy?

Yes, limited restrictions. We already have limited restrictions on gun ownership too. Strengthening background checks and enforcement would be a good first step. Actually doing something about access to mental health treatment and the stigma surrounding it, instead of just paying it lip service every time something like this happens, would also go a long way towards preventing them.

As someone whose gf works in the mental health field and whose brother was schizophrenic I agree. Problem is the only time the GOP cares about the welfare of the mentally ill is when someone shoots up a school.

Let's take one look at what's happened with parenting over the last 30 years: Kid's a little hyper? Drug it. Kid won't sit down? Drug it. Kid's talking too much? Drug it. Cases for ADD have gone up exponentially, as it helps to fund big pharma.

Oh, and guess what all the mass shooters in the past few years have in common. I'll give you three guesses, but you'll only need one.

Pretty much. All they've done in Michigan since the mid-90s is continuously gut mental health.

That they were part of the Jade Helm conspiracy?

Kepler's already proved they don't teach logic at ivy league universities, so I already know you have that mental illness about you.

See, right there you created a logical break as logic and mental illness are not inherently at odds with one another. Some of the most brilliant people throughout history have also suffered from mental illness while providing us with their greatest works.

"[FlagDUDE], what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

Well, thank you Billy Madison.

Mental illness is obviously a perceptive thing, as you refer to a genius as mentally ill, when their mental capacity is quite high. Perhaps, as is the case with any sort of binary rivalry, you are trying to bring one side down because of your inability to prop yourself up.

So saying that Van Gogh was both insane and brilliant is trying to prop up one side while deflating the other? Van Gogh painted some of the most celebrated works of art ever seen and yet somehow came to the conclusion that removing his own ear was a good idea. John Nash was insane and brilliant, is that denigrating to the man? He invented a whole branch of economics and had hallucination issues. The list goes on and on, but I'll leave you with those two well known examples.
