Nice Planet X: I knew it, I'm surrounded by a-holes!

Re: Nice Planet X: I knew it, I'm surrounded by a-holes!

It's interesting how the media (for the most part) is skirting around the targeting Christians angle. If he had targeted Muslim students or gay students or something, that would be in every headline. It'll be interesting to see if Obama ever bothers to mention this angle.

On gun control, there are reasonable steps that could be taken, but, as with so many issues, the well has been poisoned so badly that I don't expect anybody will budge an inch as the trust for the other side of the issue is zero.

You mean like the media as in these backwoods sites:

Yahoo: http://news.yahoo.com/terrible-day-9-killed-gunman-oregon-town-063530204.html#
ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) — Armed with multiple guns, a 26-year-old man walked into a morning writing class at a community college in this rural Oregon town and opened fire, hitting some students with multiple gunshots. One witness said the attacker demanded to know students' religion before shooting them.

Fox News:

(homepage headline) 'Filled with hate': Witnesses say Oregon gunman targeted Christians in community college mass murder

The gunman in Thursday's mass murder at an Oregon community college specifically targeted Christians, three witnesses said, while online accounts linked to the shooter expressed disdain for organized religion...

...Kortney Moore, 18, told the Roseburg News-Review that the shooter then burst into the room and ordered students to get on the ground, before asking people to stand up and state their religion. He then began firing. Moore said she was lying on the ground with people who had been shot.

CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/02/us/oregon-umpqua-community-college-shooting/index.html
Headline: Father of Umpqua college shooting victim: Gunman singled out Christians
Roseburg, Oregon (CNN)—The gunman who opened fire at Oregon's Umpqua Community College singled out Christians, according to the father of a wounded student...

...The gunman, while reloading his handgun, ordered the students to stand up and asked if they were Christians, Boylan told her family.

"And they would stand up and he said, 'Good, because you're a Christian, you're going to see God in just about one second,'" Boylan's father, Stacy, told CNN, relaying her account.

"And then he shot and killed them."

You apparently missed the words "for the most part." Please note them.

Bob, I visited all of the three news sites combined today. Those are the three I've listed and they all make mention of the shooter's disdain for Christians. It's not like I had to scour the net in search of Yahoo, Fox News and CNN.

Re: Nice Planet X: I knew it, I'm surrounded by a-holes!

Mental health checks are the biggest hole in background checks, I agree.
Loopholes (blind buying, exceptions) are the second biggest hole in the laws.

No MORE laws, close up and enforce the ones we actually have. Pray that stupid people start following basic gun safety laws. Safes, locks, etc.

/offsoapbox

We cant do that and you know it. We keep hearing about the holes in the system (mental health, background checks) but the same people scream to high heaven to keep those holes in the system. You cant have it both ways. Either the rules become enforceable or new rules are needed.

Face facts, there is almost no oversight over who can get a gun or how many.

And "pray the stupid people follow the law" is probably the dumbest idea I have read on here in a decade...and it has been a very stupid decade. The stupid people dont learn, that is why they are stupid. But hey trust them cause...reasons?

Just let Bob martyr himself...

Re: Nice Planet X: I knew it, I'm surrounded by a-holes!

Every report I saw yesterday included this angle. Thanks for playing Bob.
And this morning driving in to work, neither NPR, ABC or one other (I think NBC) mentioned it in their coverage. Most news articles I've seen yesterday or today do not mention it. Nice try.

P.S. Hope life is going well with your recent changes. :)

I'm sure Fox News is really playing up the angle that he identified himself as a "conservative Republican."

The whole point is this is weird enough that it isn't amenable to any simple narrative.

My bad for listening to NPR, ABC, and NBC instead of Fox. I'll try to expand my horizons to encompass your recommendation. ;)

Certainly this kind of situation is always weird and there are probably lots of things going on. But, I hope you'd admit that it is quite striking for a mass shooter to quiz people on whether they're a Christian and then shoot them if they say they are.

I agree that it's one of the weird parts of the story. But the weirdest part of the story is the guy deciding he wanted to shoot up an English class when there was a French class right down the hall.

Would you be less perturbed if he asked them whether or not they liked Nickelback?

Because, frankly, mass-killing people is disturbing enough, regardless of the reasoning.

I absolutely heard it on NPR, discussed extensively. You must've been looking at a different part of the elephant.

Bob found the foot, just before it was seen trying to crush Christaindom.

Life is full of unexplainable phenomena.

I'm equally perturbed with the act of mass-killing either way. People being perturbed at the media for how they cover things is a different issue I hope we can all agree.

Well duh, it has to fit the narrative. Watch them even lie about it and say he was a Constitutionalist; the NDAA allows it now. Anything to perpetrate the New World Order.

Every outlet that's covered the story in detail and not just a blurb has mentioned it.
