Nice Planet, Part 2: A-holes on parade

Re: Nice Planet, Part 2: A-holes on parade

Memo from Salem: charges dropped against Bernie Fine. The trouble with moral panics is, some innocent people tend to get hurt. Where does he go to get his reputation back?

To the bank, OP. :D

I always thought some of the claims were sketchy. Being in Upstate NY, I hear some of the news about this. Lange and Davis' accusations seem to have little merit. (Especially since Gloria "The Leech" Allred got her claws into them. Makes me feel for lawyers that represent legit victims.) The two have been really quiet since Thomaselli's accusations got debunked. I do hope he takes those clowns and ESPN to court.

As for people who diddle kids, let's just shoot them and save the taxpayers some cash. :D

We are willing to give the benefit of the doubt to just about any accused. Except for those accused of child sexual abuse. Most especially men who are accused of abusing boys. I have no idea if Fine did anything. But putting people out there who make these charges then recant or who have obvious motives for doing so, makes me skeptical. Somebody accused the late Cardinal Bernardin of Chicago during the height of the scandal. Then recanted. Ellie Nessler shot and killed the guy who allegedly molested her son, in open court, and more than a few people thought she was justified. He wasn't "getting away" with anything. He was on trial. H*ll I have my doubts about Michael Jackson. One accuser was drugged and made millions. The other was from a family of grifters that would make a Gypsy tribe blush. Was he? I have no idea. But being a wierdo isn't evidence.

I don't want to get started on my rant about the moral panic that gripped this country for a decade. And resulted in preposterous charges of "nests" of pedophiles infesting day cares from coast to coast. I am unable to differentiate between that phenomenon and Salem. Generally, anyone speaking up, suggesting that maybe we should make sure before we destroy people's lives, was bullied into silence by accusations of being "soft" on pedophilia. It wasn't pretty.

His reputation is screwed. Given that the charges were dropped after a review of the evidence, it's completely unfair, but such is the way our country thinks. When it comes to first degree murder, child sexual abuse, and rape, our first inclination is to say "the arsehole probably got away with it on some technicality". Nutjobs like Nancy Grace have us all in a "guilty until proven innocent" mentality.

Man, some people really get a little too wound up over elections...

Someone's going to find out, I'll bet. And when they do, he'd better be prepared to change phone numbers.

ELMO KNOWS WHERE YOU LIVE!

Even worse would be if a certain group of citizens on the Internet that shall remain nameless (hint: two plus two + martial artist Jackie _____) decides to get involved. He'll be praying for prison time.

Re: Nice Planet, Part 2: A-holes on parade

The nerve of those G*d d*mn Jew b*stards! Hamas sends over 100 peaceful rockets and they respond with airstrikes. In addition to not expecting any retaliation for those rockets, the rag heads are also playing their customary game: faking video footage of "casualties" and "damage" caused by those Jew b*stards. Among the many "man on the street" morons in this clip, my favorite is the guy who suggests, because the Israelis are more efficient at killing them in response to their unprovoked attacks, it's the fault of those d*mn Jews! There seems to be a theme here.

Re: Nice Planet, Part 2: A-holes on parade

A second accuser has come forward against the voice of Elmo. He's asking for a cool $5 million. Kevin Clash has resigned from Sesame Workshop. Legit or not, nothing good can come of this.

You know, I've been quite fortunate in my life. I've never been exorbitantly wealthy, but certainly had always been provided for as a child and now my wife and I each hold down a good job as adults. Perhaps I need to have gone through real poverty at some point, so I can better understand what desperation can do to a person. But even with that in mind, this is ****ing crazy:

It's sub-human. Who is so poor that it's that big a deal to them that they would do this to save an extra $20 on a video game? And what's a person that poor doing going this ape**** over buying a bunch of crap anyway? And if you aren't that poor... what's your problem exactly?

I don't see it as a poverty situation. The fact that you even ask those questions leads me to suspect that if you did live paycheck to paycheck, you still wouldn't have been part of this group. I have lived most of my adult life paycheck to paycheck, knowing that I was potentially only a month or two of unemployment away from the streets (although I have always had friends or family who would have made sure the streets didn't happen for me) and like you, I think this is bewildering and crazy. I remember when I was a kid, this must have been in the mid-80's, some people got killed in a stampede of Christmas shoppers trying to get Cabbage Patch Kids dolls, which were intentionally under-produced to keep up demand. Even as a child, I recognized this particular brand of crazy.

LIPA slaps Sandy victims once again.

LIPA customers who spent weeks without power got zapped with their normal electric bills — as if the outages never happened.

The clueless utility charged Sandy-soaked Long Island residents an estimated rate that covered the entire billing cycle, and the statements made no mention of potential refunds to account for the prolonged blackouts.
