Re: Nice Planet #8: You People Make Me Sick.

Governor Nixon: "Not tonight." We'll see

Just before the governor spoke we had some actual news: Jake Tapper used the word "rioters."

I would have used the word vandal or criminal, but rioter works too.

On another note, I've been in a casino all day. Have the police had a chance to rest up today? I would rather have the streets patrolled by a well-rested police force than a bunch of hyped up, over-tired cops. Also, anyone have any update on the cop who was shot last night? He was part of the University police force.

While I was playing blackjack I saw CNN (no volume) at the bar with a headline about the police and firefighters facing criticism for not being more aggressive last night. JFC. The cops are doing what they can. They could have been baited into attacking the crowd last night and they didn't. They were proactive until hoodlums started firing off guns at the media, firefighters and the cops. I admit I have been guilty of seeing the police there as an amorphous blob, but that tweet from the sheriff's department (as inappropriate as it was) drove home that these are individuals doing the best they can in very trying circumstances. Yes, there may be some bad cops (members of the KKK if you believe Anonymous) but just as I believe the vast majority of Ferguson residents were peaceful last night, I believe the vast majority of the police are there to try to help and do the best they can.

This whole situation would be so much better if people listened to the Brown family and didn't protest. Sadly that isn't going to happen...

Re: Nice Planet #8: You People Make Me Sick.

How can they be bothered to stop looting when there's over 100 officers at a coffee shop trying to get 50 people off of private property?

Re: Nice Planet #8: You People Make Me Sick.

Cop says it went down one way. Some local eye-witnesses support his story with their testimony. Autopsy supports the cop's story. Common sense supports cop's story (that he didn't execute a kid in the middle of the street in front of witnesses).

I was curious about this earlier, and haven't had a chance to try to track down this information for my own...

How well did the eyewitness accounts back up Wilson's story? The only ones I had seen quoted started right before Wilson fired the fatal shots (that is, that they saw Brown about 20 feet away from him, and I'm not sure if any of them mentioned that Brown was about to run towards Wilson, much less did Brown try to reach for anything in particular while charging).

I can't say that I've read any testimony from the evidence released last night that verify the initial confrontation by the car (although again, I haven't checked, I'm hoping someone here had already done that work for me).

How would anyone at that "network" even know?

And speaking of the media, no bias here.....

That teen was not "un"-armed, he had two arms which both were very strong and he easily could have killed someone with his bare hands. :(

Rumor was that he had a pending juvenile case for killing a person but I've not seen nor heard any substantiation of that.

Being fat means you have superhuman strength /freshfish

edit: except when it's George Zimmerman

Leaving out the fact that Officer Wilson is himself 6'4" tall and 210+ pounds, trained and capable to use non-lethal methods but ya know, big scary black kid.

It's amazing that they saw him so close to Officer Wilson when the prosecutor told us it was 150 feet. As I said last night, Brown had incredibly long arms.

Re: Nice Planet #8: You People Make Me Sick.

Definitely evidence that he took a shot to the face (going by Wilson's story, perhaps Brown got a left in while scuffling at the car?), but it is remarkable how relatively not-bad that is.

Even still, if there's a shred of truth to Wilson's story about Brown initiating a confrontation by punching him through his (presumably) rolled-down window, then there's definitely a play-with-fire-get-burned quality to Brown's death. Depending on how much of that story is true depends on whether this case falls into a venn diagram intersection between "excessive" and "warranted".

You could say this about Wilson too. How about rolling up your window and calling in backup?

Really? The guy just rolled a Cstore and the cop is going to roll up his window

It's on Wilson's right side, not the side that would be facing Brown if he's sitting in the drivers seat. It also calls into question whether Brown was this large person capable of inflicting death with just his hands.

And wait for backup. Funny how you missed that part in your attempt to put words in my mouth!

Well he looked like a demon and Wilson was like a 5 year old and... (ridiculous hyperbole but obviously we should take his account at face value).

One thing you can assume: with only one side presenting the evidence, lax rules of evidence, and unanimity not required, it must have been one hell of a weak case.

Wilson is just lucky Brown didn't consume him with fireballs from eyes.
