You're just gonna keep on blaming the cops for this riot, aren't you? There is no nuance when you're dealing with a mob spoiling for a fight. A mob that's had three months to prepare.

Just because you're angry does not give you permission to riot. I'm surprised that some store owner was not inside his store - his livelihood, with a shotgun and a few boxes of shells.

I have never seen such a delusional and ill-informed series of posts based entirely on some fantasy world than some of the posts you guys are quoting from jimjamesak.

I cannot understand how someone can come so close to condoning what these people are doing. It's just unbelievable.

My point was only that the ones who lied escalated this.

I have no doubt that the witnesses who supported the cop's story were afraid to publicly come forward - and I don't blame them.

I normally respect JimJ, have read his stuff over the years....but in this case, he is SO far off it makes me sick.

There was a famous wire service photo during Katrina of some dude sitting on his balcony in the French Quarter, generator humming at his feet, cool drink on the table next to him, with a shotgun in his lap.

Understood. I'll repeat (oh, God no) my anecdote of reporting from crime scenes where a perp has been killed by the cops. And every time, "community" members offered statements to the effect that "that boy wasn't doin' nothin." And "the cops just shot him for no reason." Needless to say, those stories were for media consumption only and never offered to a grand jury or a civilian review board.

But it's not A cause! The cause it simply the stupidity and uncivilized behaviors of dumb-arse protesters. Not a majority, but they are still part of that group.

He called me a racist a year or two ago and haven't read a thing of his outside of the WCHA threads since.

I use it a lot on GPL. there are about a half dozen or so on USCHO. Generally, if I can't remember the exact reason I blocked someone, I remove them from the block list.

Which is a form of rationalizing their behavior.

We're all responsible for our own actions.


This riot happened because the rioters rioted.

That's it.

Think about those people whose businesses have been destroyed. At least some of whom must be black. Think about the people whose jobs have been lost just ahead of Christmas. Think of the diminution of the quality of life for people who live in Ferguson. Some of those folks may not be able to just drive a little further down the road to conduct their business. The vast majority of Ferguson residents, IMO, wanted no part of this, regardless of their feelings about the shooting. But out of town rabble rousers are doubtless pleased at this evening's events. And planning for more shiza tomorrow night.

Exactly! It was **** clear that they expected idiots to act like idiots and the cop were all set up to "wackem in the Peepee" when the idiots threw something at the cops way.

If anything, some of the more peaceful protesters should have sat up shop around all of the businesses in the Ferguson community to peacefully protest there and outright shame those few bad apples out there that was totally wanting to go steal them a big screen or the new Air Jordans into being civilized for 5 minutes.

AJ has gone off the live coverage and is replaying the news from the 9pm hour. Based on their coverage and what I saw on Twitter, I would say the peaceful protests were the vast majority of people from Ferguson and the looting and vandalism was done by a relative handful of outside agitators. Based on what they were yelling at the reporter they weren't interested in anything peaceful. Really sad on all counts. I took a picture of the reporter in his flak jacket labeled "PRESS" like we have seen in coverage from a war zone...in an American city. It's tragic.
