Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

Agreed.

Assuming of course that's what happened. Who knows if the doughy fatass coward said something that escalated tensions?

Cooler heads probably should have prevailed on both sides.

True. You know I keep asking those who are outraged by the verdict to give me some kind of real evidence that GZ did something wrong and all they come up with is "he left his car" or "the dispatcher told him not to follow and he did", none of which constitute anything beyond bad judgement on his part. I also heard that as part of the cops interview with him, one of them tried to bluff him by saying "you know the whole thing was on surveillance cameras" and GZ replied "thank God." That sounds like someone who certainly has some faith in his side of the story.

Huff-and-puffers tell knuckledraggers to get over things when continuous doubt is expressed, and yet those huff-and-puffers want to express continuous doubt when something doesn't go their way... where have I seen this before...

There is no real evidence. Dead men tell no tales. I don't think anyone is disputing the verdict. Trayvon was just a stupid kid. Being stupid shouldn't get you killed but in this case it did.

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

He didn't get out of his car and follow him on foot?

FWIW and before anyone assumes what my views on this are - I believe that the correct verdict was rendered.

Regardless, Zimmerman seems like a tough guy with a gun who'd be a chicken**** without it.

When I first heard of this case, I concluded GZ was a Barney Fife type. Well meaning, but inept. Nothing we've heard since (except from the Black Grievance Industry and their willing allies in the media) alters that perception. I'll say again: in Old Pio world, community watch types don't pack heat.

And now, for today's words of wisdom, an author and leader of the Civil Rights movement from the late 19th and early 20th century:

I'm reminded of the quote attributed to Sharpton by one of his since-disbarred lawyer pals in the Tawana Brawley hoax: (paraphrasing) "This will make me the baddest n-word in New York." I'd say he's succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. Too bad he has no interest whatsoever in making things better, isn't it?

It happens all the time in government work. Why do it right the first time, when you can screw it up and work a little longer to get more money?

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

Of all the silly, hyperbolic, racist whining in the wake of the Zimmerman verdict, perhaps the dumbest is the: "Now it's open season on black boys," or some variant. Chicago cops estimate there are 100,000 gang bangers in the city. That's 100,000! And almost none of them are pudgy cop wannabe neighborhood watch types. It's been "open season" on young black men (and frequently grandmothers and infants) in Chicago and other big cities for years.

Republican Illinois senator Mark Kirk has offered suggestions on how to ameliorate the problem. I have no idea whether they would work. But congressman Bobby Rush (who famously wore a hoodie on the floor of the house) immediately, categorically and insultingly rejected them. Claiming, among other things, that since Kirk is white, he has no understanding of the issues involved. That could well be true. But Rush's approach hasn't exactly been a success.

That certainly would have settled the issue a lot sooner with a whole lot less of fuss about the deal.

And the "doughy fatass coward" lived in the development, was on the neighborhood watch and had just as much right to be there, if not more, than Martin. He didn't deserve to be attacked and had the right to defend himself.

And lets not the evidence suggests trayvon was a lot closer to home (where is father, a member of the crips, was staying) and some suggestion he may have gotten there (an item was missing that trayvon claim in texts that he had) before turning back and going after Zimmerman.

Meanwhile the sainted illiterate phone-witness says that trayvon probably threw the first punch but he's totally not to blame

This is where things get murky as to fault. If true, and if TM actually did start the physical fight, well... things didn't go too well from there.

I don't blame the kid for being ****ed as he had every right to be there and NOT be followed by a doughy fatass coward. But at some point, being ****ed doesn't mean you should start a fight - if that's what actually happened. You just never know who you are dealing with or how things could escalate.

So, wait, how is he a coward now?

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

One detail of the court case that puzzled me: Trayvon's girlfriend says she was talking on the phone with him just before he died, and he complained that a "creepy" person was following him. So how come neither he nor the girlfriend called 911? Most people I know would certainly have called 911 in that situation, and if Trayvon were my son, he probably would have too.

One element to the whole situation that really annoyed me: if you are going to promote a particular narrative about a court case, wouldn't you want to pick a case where the facts fit the narrative? Whenever you try to force a narrative onto a case where the facts don't mesh with your story, you are going to be frustrated: the jury's charge is to evaluate the evidence presented for the case in front of them: it is not the jury's job to twist the facts to fit the narrative.

One observation: I haven't really heard anyone suggest that the jury reached the wrong verdict, even among the most vociferous protesters. Even people who are upset about the verdict seem to realize that "not guilty" means that the prosecutors did not present sufficient evidence to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt. There is a vast gulf in some cases between "innocent" and "not guilty" and this case might be an example of that distinction.

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

Finally we polled on some lighter topics. Miley Cyrus is no match for the Star Spangled Banner- just 3% of voters support changing the national anthem to 'Party in the USA,' compared to 92% who are opposed.

Despite the novel storm fighting techniques proposed by Sharknado, only 13% of voters would support 50 million dollars in federal money to research the effectiveness of dissipating tornadoes by throwing bombs into them, compared to 66% opposed.

And there's little sympathy for Los Angeles' plight from the movie - just 11% of voters support federal aid to California for Sharknado recovery with 55% opposed.

11% of voters support federal aid for fictional damage caused in a horrible movie...

There should be another box you can check for, "I have utterly no idea what you're talking about. Please, God, don't ask for my input."
