As to the guy in Oklahoma, given the scope of the problem (they don't have patient records that go back further than 5 years I believe) this could be way worse than Acer. Thanks for the explanation of how such a young guy made the connection so quickly. I was thinking you'd written a paper or something.

Like everyone else who holds a Master's Degree, I've written a lot of papers, but the Acer cases were never the subject of any of them. I never considered law school, because while it would've been relatively easy with the writing and arguing skills everyone's always told me I have, I felt it was too slimy a profession for me; I blame Geoffrey Fieger ;). In hindsight, it's more likely because I felt I was too shy, and I was more interested in airplanes at the time.

Years ago, on a Friday, we had gone to lunch at Luby's and came back feeling like we were ready for the weekend. The AP began sending "bulletins" and "urgents" about an apparent attempt on Gerald Ford. As these things happen, the story developed with the passing of time. Additional details were added. Coincidentally, I had just finished reading Vince Bugliosi's "Helter Skelter," the story of the Tate murders and his prosecution of the Manson gang. Anyway, within a few minutes, AP said the young woman arrested was Lynette Fromm. I got a cold chill. My God, Squeaky tried to kill the president. I'll never forget that moment.

Now, the significance of said novel vs. reality is too old for me to grasp. However, I did not know that that is how "Squeaky" got her nickname.

"Helter Skelter" was non-fiction. Vincent Bugliosi was the assistant DA chosen to prosecute the Manson family case and he got Murder 1 convictions on all of them, and the death penalty. The subsequent overturning of capital punishment allowed those scumbags to avoid the gas chamber. But Bugliosi did his job. Among other things the book shows that a generation gap was responsible for hindering the investigation for the longest time. You'll recall there were the killings of Sharon Tate and those folks at her house. Followed by the murders of a wealthy husband and wife, Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. The detectives investigating Tate were older, crew cut, and old fashioned. The detectives who investigated the LaBianca killings were younger and almost immediately saw a connection. But the older detectives, perhaps resenting the younger guys, didn't see any connection and went on about their investigation. As I say, ultimately all of the Manson family members were convicted. Squeaky was the name the young lady was given by "the family." And during the trial, she was the de facto leader, carrying on outside the courthouse and given media interviews just about every day.

Bugliosi subsequently did made for TV presentation called "On Trial, Lee Harvey Oswald." It's in several parts available on Youtube. Fascinating. The concept was to hold the criminal trial that Oswald would have faced if he'd not been killed. Real witnesses, real jurors from Dallas, a real retired judge with Bugliosi prosecuting and flamboyant defense lawyer Gerry Spence representing Oswald. It was a slam dunk for the prosecution. As a result of his participation in that project, Bugliosi developed an interest in the JFK assassination which led him to write the most comprehensive book on the event ever. It's called "Reclaiming History." 1500 pages, with footnotes on a DVD. Published in '07. I keep a copy on the coffee table to use as an encyclopedia whenever the assassination comes up. This November marks 50 years, and there will certainly be a lot of TV documentaries and presumably some new books. Check out that made for cable trial video. You'll see what an absolute pit bull Bugliosi is in a court room. You'll also see how the actual evidence against Oswald, if presented in court, would have convicted him easily. Bull shiza Oliver Stone conspiracy theories aren't evidence.

Who has a dialysis appointment at 3:30 in the morning?

His appointment wasn't at 3:30, he was waiting for a bus at 3:30. I assume he had an early appointment and wanted to make sure he was there on time.

Ward Churchill, the man a faculty committee at Colorado found to be a liar and plagiarist, won't be getting a hearing in front of SCOTUS. I can't imagine a worse example of "diversity" hires. His claims of being a native American were fraudulent. He was under qualified, with only a master's in an unrelated field. Yet somehow wound up as department head at a major state university. And in the triumph of his career, called victims of 9/11 "little Eichmanns." A disgusting, libstain punk. No doubt some of his pals in the America Sucks Club, who consider him a hero, will find some sort of job for him.

And it's been astonishing how many self-described "progressives" have sought to punish, or support those who have attempted to punish the Boy Scouts in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling they don't like. Personally I think BSA's policy relies on 19th century stereotypes, particularly as regards gay scouts. But SCOTUS has ruled that's their right.

Ditto. I disagree with the BSA, but it's a private organization. See also: Augusta golf.

Can we put this on pay per view and give the money to the victims family?

Remember those "$1 For A Shot" and you paid a dollar to hit a car with a sledgehammer? Can we do that with this guy, and use fists instead of a sledge? I have $20 I wouldn't mind spending....

I'm thinking far more nasty with him. Old school dunk tank, dollar for a throw to knock him off of his perch. Put a nose around his neck to pull him back up on the perch if he stops getting back up on the perch. Make sure the tank has lots of ice in it, and line the people up to just keep dunking him and dunking him until he either strangles or subcomes to hypothermia. People can also physically throw something at him to try to knock him off of his perch, but the target works the best.
