Nice Planet 2012

I'd imagine checking the paper every morning to see if three generations of your family were wiped out overnight gets a little old. How'd you like to be known as "the spare?" He gives the impression of being a regular guy. Served in combat. Didn't want to leave his men. He's okay in my book. Besides, Grandmama gave up the really great yacht a few years ago. 6,000 tons worth. :)
Her Majesty was not amused. The Prince has been recalled to active duty and assigned for duty with troops in the Falklands for 6 months.

Wishful thinking but I can imagine this morning's breakfast at the palace was not pleasant.

Re: Nice Planet 2012

So, how come they didn't bother to just shuffle the deck there at the table before they all started playing the game?

From what I gathered, the non-shuffling was not noticed until after all the payouts.

The casino SHOULD lose this. Should being the operative word.

Re: Nice Planet 2012

Ok, so I've been thinking about this. What casino buys pre-shuffled cards? How the f*k do you prove to the gamblers you have a 52-card deck with the appropriate cards? You buy a standard deck, spread them out over the table, and then shuffle them. I call BS on the entire idea of a preshuffled deck.

I know the Gaming Commission has a multitude of rules and standards. How far do they reach? That, I do not know. The gambling business is highly regulated, and I'd assume they have some major contracts with a crapload of fineprint and penalties for failing to satisfy the terms.

Re: Nice Planet 2012

I was wondering why the decks needed to be pre-shuffled as well... Every other card game played shuffles the cards as you play either by the dealer or an auto-shuffler... Why is Baccarat different? The article mentioned that 8 decks of cards were used... A standard Blackjack shoe is 6 decks, so the amount of cards shouldn't be an issue... Anyone play the game and have any insight?

Let's ask "Ace" Rothstein.

On the other hand, he inherits 10 million POUNDS when he turns 30. Assuming he's not nuked in the Malvinas, 10 million quid can make life a bit more bearable, and he can learn to live with Grandmama's scowls.

He seems like a regular guy (or as much of a regular guy as anyone could be under those circumstances). I like him. And I really like that he didn't want to leave his men. Says a lot about him.

At the risk of sounding lachrymose, I also remember how he and his brother had to share their grief at the death of their mother with the whole world. The image of those two boys marching behind her casket, with the sign that read "mummy," is one I won't easily forget. It doesn't excuse his hijinks. But I think he's earned a dispensation.

Agree, but he needs to realize that you don't do things to upset Grandma.

For sure. I'd imagine she can peel paint with "the look." On the other hand, the 10 million quid comes from his mother's estate, and Her Majesty has no authority there. He'll make nice with the old lady. Promise to clean up his act. And point out that he's not nearly as big an a*shole as his father. That ought to get him out of the dog house.

The bigger ashhat in that family is Her Majesty's late uncle. I shudder to think what would have happened to England if he was king during WW-II.

Agreed. In addition, we loyal subjects would not have had the Queen Mum. She was a kick!

Yeah, "The King's Speech" didn't leave much of his reputation in tact did it? I don't know if the story about Von Ribbentrop (who wound up dangling at the end of a rope) sending Mrs. Simpson roses every day is true, but it's the kind of thing that makes your skin crawl. Plus, there's all sorts of inferential evidence that the Duke was more than a little enamored of National Socialism. Plus, plus if there's ever been a more p*ssy whipped dude, historians have not noted it.

Re: Nice Planet 2012

The latest casualty figures from Chicago. I'm certain the President will at least say something about this slaughter just any day now. He found the time to have a "beer" summit when a mouthy Harvard professor buddy of his got popped, essentially for being an a*shole. Well, in Chicago real people are getting dead and wounded. After all, this is the town the President calls home. How about a "summit" with the mayor, his former chief of staff, to see if there's anything the federal government can do to help. No? Probably figures there are no votes in it.

Watch it through the end to get the whole picture. It's worth it.
