Re: Nice Planet 2012

I won't go that far, but the tone of the story made it sound like the gay-ness was an issue, and I don't think it was.
The tone did make it sound like it, and I agree with the words Old Pio uses, that there is no evidence it was.

A different (and dissenting) view of the Southern Poverty Law Center, which had labeled the Family Research Council a "hate" group. Evidently, the one thing the SPLC does really well is raise money. Turns out the "civil rights lawyer" who founded the group is a member of the Direct Mail Marketing Association's hall of fame. Hmmmmm.

I still don't understand this. Was she naked and sat down for five minutes? I fail to see how normal human reflexes would not cause her to jump up immediately if it was that hot, and clothing should have made it so there was nearly no damage. She had to be trying to get a lawsuit.
We're not far from a world where warning signs are no longer needed. Because we will be shadowed by someone to tell us what is and is not hazardous to our health.

I don't understand the nuances of mental disorders, but I believe that trying to teach the kid not to eat crayons is a battle that can't be won. The kid can perhaps be taught today ("perhaps" being the key word), but will have to be taught again tomorrow, and the day after that.... In that light, the hot sauce is inappropriate. For a normal kid, the hot sauce trick might work, but would probably still be ill-advised.

LOL. I was about to post this one. No surprise. We're talking Oklahoma here. Just for the record, I oppose statehood for Okies.

Here's an old joke: "Did you hear about the tornado that hit Norman? It did 250 million dolllars in improvements."
Well, it is Injun territory afterall.

To call Oklahoma "conservative" is to miss it by quite a bit. I worked at the biggest station in OkC (they were located in a building evacuated after the Murrah building bombing because there were FBI offices in it) and every day, I mean every single day, their afternoon talk show host yammered on about the federal "plot" against those poor Branch Davidians and the federal "involvement" in what went on in OkC. Day after day after day. Every crackpot conspiracy theory was carefully and approvingly vetted.

It's just a matter of time before these clowns are invited to the White House so they can kiss Moochell's ring.

They have to deal with inevitable loss of revenue and potential budget cutbacks first.

(That's only kind of a joke... I'm not sure how much a school could possibly make on concessions each year. It's probably not much, but I don't think schools can really afford to throw away money like that.)

And won't they have to ban fans from bringing soda and red hots from home? Or stopping off at a fast food joint on their way to the game? This is America! Who on earth thinks it's a good idea to ban hot dogs at a high school football game? Nowdays, about the only time lots of us ever have a dog is at sporting events (for years the press box at DU hockey games was famous for serving "death dogs"). You wonder what color the sky is in their world. Hummus? Don't make me laugh.

Apparantly the option of offering "healthier" choices and allowed fans to chose for themselves just didn't occur to them.

Instead, teachers will be encouraged to reward boys and girls with an eraser, a sticker or “taking a walk with a special staff person.”
They identify the retards they hire???
