Re: Nice Planet 2012

Speaking of seeing an "idiot drunk walking down the middle of the street," how dumb does one have to be to not detect the sarcasm of geezer's post?

Yeah, I was going to reply with the old standby, "Whooooosh," but I think you pretty much made the point here.

Re: Nice Planet 2012

Saw that in the local paper. Certainly a very poor thing to do. I doubt it'd get any traction, as people in AZ are pretty used to Mormons holding various political offices, particularly in a conservative area like Gilbert.

Yup. I don't want to hear any comments about any candidate's religion, ever.

Re: Nice Planet 2012

No need for quotation marks. He's a musician. And a major a*shole.

Edit: I'm not trying to quibble, I swear. I'm just saying: I'm an engineer. Just because I happen to be kind of a terrible person doesn't mean that I'm actually an "engineer".

Maybe we should consult Strunk and White. :)

Re: Nice Planet 2012

I'm pretty good with sarcasm in real life (I use it a hell of a lot). but when someone who routinely says things that I consider idiotic says something idiotic, I laugh, and call him an idiot. Just the way it is.

You have to love cops who don't know basic laws.

Talk about hitting for the cycle! A gay ex-serviceman who saw time in war zones out celebrating with his lover and packing heat. Wow.

"I swear I didn't know that very rich guy I was married to for years was gay."--A. Huffington.

Re: Nice Planet 2012

The Family Research Council and the Southern Poverty Law Center in another culture war p*ssing contest.. Although I think the SPLC is over the line calling the FRC a "hate" group, I also think the FRC is grossly over reacting by suggesting the law center gave anybody permission to shoot anybody. On balance I think the SPLC does a major service to America by keeping track of nutbar groups. I have interviewed Mark Potok, their chief spokesman, many times. However, their choice of language is wrong, IMO. It's just wrong to use the same word to describe the Family Research Council as they use to describe the Klan. Shame on both of them.

I don't like the fact that he played the gay card. From what I got of the article, it was simply a gun "violation." I don't think his sexuality had anything to do with it.

And before anyone (not specifying any certain poster, mind you) calls me out for being homophobic, I don't care who you love. I'm taking this story at face value: cop saw a gun in an open carry situation, and used the resources he had. I don't think he was thinking, "I'm gonna bust this f*g." Again, taking this story as it was reported.

You're almost certainly right. Cop saw a gun and responded. Turns out he was mistaken. Happens hundreds, maybe thousands of times every day. We all (and I do mean all) have a tendency to blow the most inconsequential events into a BFD. And rush to the barricades, prepared to drop the boiling oil on the attackers.

I was having a little fun at Duper's expense. And giving Arianna the needling she has earned through years of not paying attention. "So that's why my husband has a Kip Noll calender in the bath room."

It was her mother who didn't know that McDonald's coffee was hot....

What's that old joke? The lawyer sitting is sitting in his study at home when the Devil materializes. He offers to make the guy the best lawyer in the world, the richest lawyer in the world and the most sexually desireable lawyer in the world. All the devil wants in return are the immortal souls of his wife and children to torture in H*ll forever. After a long pause, the lawyer says: "What's the catch?"
