Re: Nice Planet 2012

These *******s are fighting alongside an enemy that we're at war with. If a US citizen was fighting with the Nazis during WW2, we'd have shot the **** out of him too.

I think there's a fine line here. If the guy is actively taking up arms against the US, that's one thing. But when you're able to fire a missile from beyond the horizon when the guy isn't actively shooting, that's different.

Re: Nice Planet 2012

Ding ding. I knew a guy back in high school that called himself that. I think he was Egyptian. Or at least claimed to be.

Egyptian? Nice. I have never known one. Closest was an Israeli in K-8. Real nice family.

Re: Nice Planet 2012

I also knew an Israeli, Jordanian, and a Lebanese guy (all three still live in their respective countries). Very nice, all of them, except when you started them on regional politics.

I was a tad young for that. Too bad, as it would have been fascinating to hear their views. The Israeli family I knew came over (legally, bbdl! ;) ) when he was 2-3YO maybe?

They're all nice until they start strapping bombs to their chests.

Re: Nice Planet 2012

We're right on the cusp of making Reagan's dream of "lobbing one into the Kremlin men's room" a reality. Or was it Goldwater?

We need to recognize the new reality of asymmetrical warfare. Most of us got the concept on 9/11. Clinton used to talk about bringing these a*sholes to justice. By which he apparantly meant sending Andy Sipowitz over there to put the cuffs on 'em, read 'em their rights, assign 'em a lawyer and give 'em bail.

That's of limited utility, IMO. His Transparencyness campaigned, in part, on closing Gitmo. He quickly jettisoned that bad idea as he jettisoned the bad idea of trying those m. effers in NYC. The rules are different now. You've got a United States Army field grade officer murdering a platoon of soldiers because he was an Islamist pig. He was influenced by and in contact with Al Awlaki. Too bad we didn't clip this "cleric" earlier, maybe those GI's would still be alive.

"Dr." Hasan is being given all the rights the UCMJ affords defendants in courts martials. However, if he had murdered those soldiers, then escaped to Yemen, we'd be perfectly justified in blowing him to steaming chunks with a Hellfire missile.

Perfect sense.

Only if you think the justice systems in America and the Middle East are comparable. . .and equally dedicated to due process. . .with U.S. presidents only too willing to turn to their stable of remorseless "button men" to commit murder on their whims. Next you'll be claiming some high ranking officers in the Pentagon were responsible for gunning down JFK. If you hurry, you might be able to find a space in Elizabeth Clare Prophet's Montana bunker. Don't forget to bring your guns.

If you want to make an ACLU "slippery slope" argument about the troubling precedent of a president ordering the deaths of U.S. citizens abroad, that's one thing. But with your customary flair for hyperbole, you've jumped to the conclusion government sanctioned killings in CONUS are inevitable.

You whined when I pointed out your prescripton for what should happen to Penn State was the one applied by the SS to Lidice. Well, your fears about what some POTUS may do to future accused terrorists bring to mind the SS solution for "enemies of the state" applied during the "night of the long knives." Sorry.

Strong "Putz of the Year" candidate won't let his daughter take her Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World.

I actually agree with his decision and the reason he gives for it. The kid is free and clear of whatever she had. Because of this, he thinks the money for the trip should be used for someone who is actually dying.

Does the kid deserve a trip to Disney Land? Of course and you know people will donate ten times that much to make it happen. However, the Make a Wish program is now able to provide a wish one a dying child.

Nice going, Tennessee. I guess freedom of religion and assembly only apply if you happen to belong to a non-creepy religion (trying to think of one...). They followed the correct procedure, the judge acknowledged that they followed the correct procedure, but then ruled against them anyway because they should have known to tack on extra-special-double-secret-procedures "because the mosque construction was 'an issue of major importance to citizens.'"
