Re: Nice Planet 2012

The Trib is in the link, but I had a good idea this was from Chicago just by the description. There's a story I read a year or two ago about a new "game", I don't recall the name, that has been rising in popularity among Chicago teens. Apparently you just go up to someone and try to knock them out with a punch. Sounds like that's what happened here.

Though it also says he was a gang member, so maybe it was some initiation thing or something.

Sounds plausible.

This babe is either crazy or stupid or both. My money's on the latter. "Huck Finn" racist? That canard is harder to kill than Jason.

Note: at one point she claimed to be part Japanese and black, which reminded me of the old Rip Taylor joke about the guy who's half black and half Japanese. And every December 7th he attacks Pearl Bailey.

Turns out a wanna-be EMT in Virginia is a former porn "actress," which has generated the customary sanctimony. To me, if I'm having a medical emergency, I don't care how many dicks she's sucked, just get those paddles on me, pronto.

My memory of Baywatch was that they always seemed to come back to life when Pamela Lee Anderson gave them CPR. I'm sure the porn actress wouldn't have nearly as great as of a success rate as she did on that show, but hell, a beautiful woman giving me chest compressions when the White Light is calling me just might keep me here on the Earthly plane for a little while longer.

There's nothing Courteous, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Cheerful, Brave, or Reverent about homophobia. This Eagle Scout is extremely disappointed.

Well, there's no impetus for her to get a normal job if she'll just be found out and rejected, so she might as well...keep right on being a porn actress!

Re: Nice Planet 2012

Meh. It's their right, just as its our right to decide if we would continue to support an organization with that kind of policy.
Of course. At this point, I would have a really hard time deciding whether to involve my son (if I ever have one) in Scouting - it would be a tough decision for me if nothing changes between now and then.

I'd guess someone ratted her out. She's a volunteer EMT. Assuming she meets whatever standards they've established, what's the problem? Can you see one of the mossbacks in that town, having a heart attack, refusing to let her treat him? And demanding that "Goodie two shoes" provide the emergency care instead? I'm guessing no.

Re: Nice Planet 2012

Don't worry. They'll be bludgeoned into proper submission as so many other institutions have been or are being.
The time for bludgeoning came and went in 2000, when the Supreme Court ruled their membership policy to be Constitutional. Any change that is made will be made by BSA themselves, as they realize that their policy costs them the participation of more and more people - straight and gay - who could otherwise make valuable contributions to the organization. It will not be an external bludgeoning, it will be an internal enlightenment.

Well, yes and no. Yes, because the policy seems unrealistic and anachronistic. Especially as regards the boys, very few of whom have any sort of sexual identity. Back in the day, Anita Bryant used the phrase "refresh their ranks," to describe her view of "gay recruiting." As to leaders, it seems the policy stubbornly refuses to acknowledge that pedophelia and homosexuality are two different things. Despite our awareness of the Sandusky case, most pedophiles abuse little girls--I'm told some have no preference. Even so, with the Sandusky case fresh in our minds, we have to acknowledge that there are potential threats out there--and an organization like the BSA has to guard against them--constantly.

No because in the wake of the Supreme Court decision, "progressive" cities all over the country set out to punish the Boy Scouts, because they disapproved of the policy. Long time contracts for use of city facilities with very favorable terms were canceled or at least threatened to be canceled. Plus other punishments were contemplated and imposed. As usual, when sanctimony and political correctness become the primary motivators, it's the boys who get hurt when their options are limited or eliminated. On balance, despite a policy which I think has outlived its usefulness, BSA is a far greater plus than a minus. Countless hundreds of thousands of boys have been helped to grow into men because of scouting--and many of them are inner city kids who have very few quality male role models to look up to.

Re: Nice Planet 2012

To be fair, I'm not sure you'd be too keen if a missile came in through your front door because you were accused of being a terrorist without due process. I'm very uncomfortable with any remote executions of US citizens who have not renounced their citizenship (even then I'm not sure if that's enough). Treason, and how it must be prosecuted, is specifically called out in the Constitution.

unless the troops are kicking down a traitor's door and he raises a weapon, I just don't like the idea of executing him from afar.

Remember: ragheads aren't people. Or something.

Re: Nice Planet 2012

I mean, if we're executing US citizens abroad because they're ACCUSED traitors, then it's not going to be too far behind that we start seeing these executions on US soil.
