Re: Nice Planet 2012

I actually agree with his decision and the reason he gives for it. The kid is free and clear of whatever she had. Because of this, he thinks the money for the trip should be used for someone who is actually dying.

Does the kid deserve a trip to Disney Land? Of course and you know people will donate ten times that much to make it happen. However, the Make a Wish program is now able to provide a wish one a dying child.

Then you're in the running for Putz of the Year too for agreeing with this a*shole and his efforts to continue beefing with his ex-wife by punishing his little girl. And for being so credulous as to believe that all he's thinking of are other sick kids. Excuse me while I wipe the vomit off my shoes.

No cancer patient is "free and clear" until after 5 years and even then it can return. And shouldn't the people who run Make-A-Wish actually establish the criteria for getting a wish fulfilled? And not you? And certainly not this putz father?

I agree. The girl is going to live, hopefully a long and full life. That Make-A-Wish trip should be given to a child that isn't as fortunate.

Another wannabe Make-A-Wish administrator, unable or unwilling to see through the self serving blather of a vengeful ex-husband who's primary goal seems to be hurting his ex-wife. And if the kid gets hurt, well tough.

I never said I believed him. I said I agree with the reason he gives. I don't believe that's his reason at all, but we can't prove that.

Re: Nice Planet 2012

No because in the wake of the Supreme Court decision, "progressive" cities all over the country set out to punish the Boy Scouts, because they disapproved of the policy. Long time contracts for use of city facilities with very favorable terms were canceled or at least threatened to be canceled. Plus other punishments were contemplated and imposed. As usual, when sanctimony and political correctness become the primary motivators, it's the boys who get hurt when their options are limited or eliminated. On balance, despite a policy which I think has outlived its usefulness, BSA is a far greater plus than a minus. Countless hundreds of thousands of boys have been helped to grow into men because of scouting--and many of them are inner city kids who have very few quality male role models to look up to.
Very true. Here in Arizona a former mayor of tried to cut all city ties with the Boy Scouts because of his personal agenda, and almost got recalled as a result. One wonders how long the Boy Scouts can hold out when so many institutions have taken the easy way out and caved in to the strongarm pressure tactics commonly employed in these situations.

Re: Nice Planet 2012

Definitely not. If I had to reference a form of government, it'd be something very different from democracy.
Was there anything improper about his policy of not favoring one particular non-profit organization over others? I doubt it, but if so, then he should by all means be prosecuted and/or removed from office. Failing that, it sounds like the voters decided (by failing to recall him) that they wanted him and his policies to remain in office.

What's the problem, again?

There was involvement with a variety of non-profits, and he tried to single out the Boy Scouts to punish them, and a lot of people resented it.

I agree with the "scumbag" dad. I don't really believe HIM, but I believe the reasons he stated are valid ones. Yes, the girl deserves the trip, but not at the expense of Make A Wish in this particular instance.

Another wanna-be Make-A-Wish administrator. Your opinion of which wishes should be fulfilled is just that, your opinion. If you want to alter Make-A-Wish's mission statement from granting wishes to kids who faced life theatening medical condition to kids who are terminal, then knock yourself out. But that's not their mission. They reviewed this case and decided after two years of hell, the little girl deserved the trip. Why do you figure your opinion supercedes theirs? All of the wishes Make-A-Wish grants are at "their expense." What does that even mean?

I just can't believe otherwise intelligent people can't see through this prik's transparent effort to punish his wife and want to impose their own judgements on Make-A-Wish. The people with the fiduciary relationship to the donors have decided she should get to go. That settles it.
