That's the case with whatever strategy is used. I would guess that the US works with security at other international airports that fly into the US so that they can have an expectation that passengers have been screened, though, I'm not sure how that works. I know that the security in Amsterdam sure seemed tighter than it was here in the US.

The security in Budapest when I flew out of there was ... not tighter. The fact is, part of the reason we have only the illusion of security is exactly this. If someone really wanted to do something nasty, they would figure out what airports have lax security, and fly in from them.

Of course, there are all manner of other things that make our security an illusion rather than an actuality.

(And God Dammit I'm getting tired of agreeing with Old Pio!!! :D)

Yes and no - it obviously wouldn't do anything to protect inbound flights from international destinations. However, once you arrive in the US, you are required to clear customs and re-enter the airport via a security checkpoint, so it actually would protect domestic flights from passengers who originated at a foreign airport.

The jokes in the Washington Post comments in the above link are Golden & beyond belief! I am still laughing my *** off, and it probably will go on for a couple more days unless they shut it down. Some originality and creativity there. :D

One example:

I hear the new heart was screaming "no! no! not THAT!!!" as they lowered it into Cheney's chest.

I haven't seen anywhere that this is being actively discussed, and I figured that this is as good of place as any.

Zimmerman told them he lost sight of Trayvon and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from the left rear, and they exchanged words.

Trayvon asked Zimmerman if he had a problem. Zimmerman said no and reached for his cell phone, he told police.

Trayvon then said, "Well, you do now" or something similar and punched Zimmerman in the nose.

Zimmerman fell to the ground and Trayvon got on top of him and began slamming his head into the sidewalk, he told police.

One witnesses, who has since talked to local television news reporters, told police he saw Zimmerman on the ground with Trayvon on top, pounding him and was unequivocal that it was Zimmerman who was crying for help.

Zimmerman then shot Trayvon once in the chest from very close range, according to authorities.

When police arrived less than two minutes later, Zimmerman was bleeding from the nose, had a swollen lip and had bloody lacerations to the back of his head.

Paramedics gave him first aide but he said no to going to the hospital. He got medical care the next day.

Maybe that is how it happened, but how does a guy that is being pounded into submission by an attacker on top him and obviously in duress enough to be crying for help manage to pull a gun?

As weird as it sounds, I hope that is how it happened because maybe it will silence some of those assuming the worst about Zimmerman.

Let's get all these "witnesses" in front of a grand jury, under oath, to tell their stories. Professionally, I can recount numerous instances where "witnesses" tell the media: "The cops just shot that boy for doing nothing. They just shot him down." However, these "witnesses" never seem to show up before grand jurys or civilian review boards, under oath, to tell what they "saw".

The sad, unarguable truth is, black teenagers have far more to fear from people of their own race and age cohort than they do from Barney Fife wannabes.

Not in the minds of those who suggest black teenagers are "under attack" as a way of scoring political points and helping to gin up black turnout in November. These youngsters are under attack, only from other black teenagers, not overweight white guys. And while we're at it, why do the media continue to run pictures of Trayvon when he was a cherubic 12 or 13 year old and not the far more mature 17 year old he actually was, with his sparked out teeth and tattoos? Not that any of that justifies killing him. But you do get the sense there's an effort underway to make certain there are no deviations from the narrative: innocent young black child gunned down by a ruthless white guy (Skittles has gotten more press out of this incident than Reeses Pieces did with ET). Trayvon's look and his activities argue against that narrative. Again, none of that is meant to justify Zimmerman. But accuracy is accuracy. Most 17 year olds are far bigger and bulkier than they were at 12 or 13.

Beautiful. Perfect. Typical. Maybe you've seen the gag poster from the Vietnam era showing a toothless old bum wearing a flight suit and helmet that said: "Sleep soundly tonight, your Air Force is on duty."

One of my favorite "security theatre" stories involved the young special forces officer whose jaw was broken by an IED. He was flying somewhere, in uniform, with his Purple Heart. He told the flight crew he had a small tool which he would use to cut the wire holding his jaw shut if he became air sick, so he wouldn't drown in his own vomit. And would they please hold it for him in case he needed it? I'm sure you can guess how this one ended. But this kid walked away from the gate, got on the phone and called all the media he could find.

It's a fair question: who hires these morons?
