NHL hockey returns to the 'Peg! Maybe?

Re: NHL hockey returns to the 'Peg! Maybe?

I'm not a huge fan of a move to the Central. Those teams were rivals of the North Stars, not the Wild.

I've learned to hate Colorado, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver now.

Re: NHL hockey returns to the 'Peg! Maybe?

No. In a perfect world, they would find a way for Toronto to come west to bring back the Norris. Plus, the Original six would be split 3-3 then.

Then there's the Frolunda Indians HC jersey from Gothenburg Sweden with a hostile and abusive logo on the Wild's white template and the same number font :)

Could they put another sponsor on those unis?

This. I want this to happen.

I would defend against ATL being moved to WPG, but I've never been to ATL and have only liked them since their expansion and because their affiliate is in Chicago. I wish I could defend the club, but I honestly can't.

I've seen the Thrashers play in ATL. Their Ice girls are super hot. So if nothing else, they should stay for that reason alone. :D

That would work too. I remember a lot of great Leafs-Blues playoff games at MLG

A quick google search makes it look like they just raided the Wild's equipment locker. :D

Re: NHL hockey returns to the 'Peg! Maybe?

*watches the Eastern teams vote against letting Detroit come over*

"We give up Atlanta, who has one playoff trip in their existence and zero wins, and get Detroit? Fark you."

Re: NHL hockey returns to the 'Peg! Maybe?

Screw it. Play a balanced schedule and get rid of divisions. Just keep conferences.

Edit: It's not as crazy as it sounds. Two games against every non-conference opponent is 30, four games against every conference opponent is 56. 86 games isn't that much crazier than the current system, not when you have a (more) balanced schedule.

The Eastern conference teams laugh at your suggestion that they travel more than the bare minimum. Your plan is defeated.

Re: NHL hockey returns to the 'Peg! Maybe?

Screw it. Let's just go back to the Patrick, Norris, Smythe, Adams Divisions. If you want to keep the six divisions, add the Espisito and Howe Divisions.

It's a start.
I think it would be interesting (and could possibly cut travel costs if they used that 4-2 balanced schedule and made all conference games 2 game series at one site on consecutive days, like college hockey. Non-conference games could be played as home-and-home series with one day between games. (yes, I know this will never happen, but I think it could be fun.)

I'd love to see that again (four divisions). Break it up just like the AHL has it. I'd even include the "Transfer" spots for 5th place as incentive to play well.

Never happen. Why make 3 separate trips to California when you can do an Anaheim-LA-San Jose road swing and be done in a week? Even baseball tends to get that scheduling aspect right - teams generally make 2-3 west coast trips/year, hitting 2 or 3 teams at a time.

I said in my post that it would never happen, only that it would be interesting...and baseball plays multi-game series, hockey could do the same. Two game series @ San Jose, two game series @ Anaheim, 2 game series @LA in about a week and a half. For the home and home you could play at home vs., say LA, then @LA, then @Anaheim, then home vs. Anaheim. We're just throwing out fantasies here and I think it would be an interesting way to do it, I like the way it works in college hockey.

Baseball does series because they essentially play every day and if they didn't do series, teams would be travelling way too much. College teams schedule the way they do because of academic issues and travel costs (not that that stops basketball or baseball from playing boat loads of midweek games). Professional hockey doesn't real deal with either, except for travel costs (which can be minimized by not playing in LA one day and NY two days later).

Generally speaking, series scheduling is not the best idea when the series itself is meaningless (ie, who cares if the Cubs "win the weekend series versus St. Louis" when ultimately its simple wins and losses that matter)? It's better, when feasible, to spread out games against a single opponent so that a single event such as an injury, doesn't impact every game between those two teams.
