NHL Board of Governors meeting - Conference Realignment: Who goes where????

Re: NHL Board of Governors meeting - Conference Realignment: Who goes where????

Surely there are more details to come. Specifically, what the scheduling will be like in and out of division/conference, and how playoffs are determined.
Play everybody outside your conference home and home.

For the 7 team conferences - play everyone 6x
For the 8 team conferences - play some teams 5x and others 6x, the 5x teams become 6x the following year.

The Caps will have a hard time making the playoffs.

God, I love this new (old) format. First two rounds are regional playoffs? Spectacular. Let's bring back the old division names (Norris, Smythe, Adams, and Patrick). Old time hockey *****es.

I love the groupings, HATE the playoff format. Terrible. Why not keep 2 conferences, with 2 divisions each? Why not?! WHY?! NOT?!

I dunno whether to congratulate the league, or damm them.

Exactly. All they would really have to do is not re-seed the final four, correct?

jack edwards is a complete ***

That he is, but the Pens guys are worse.

I'm befuddled by all the new aspects of this realignment. Can't wait for the heated rivalry of Bruins-Panthers meeting in the first round.

Two conferences with 7, two conferences with 8.

You DO realize what this sets us up for, right?

Hint: it's the opposite of contraction.

Who exactly thinks we have a rivalry with Colorado besides you?
Considering the Wild are 29 - 26 - 8 VS Colorado and 26 - 24 - 13 VS Vancouver they would be the top 2 rivals of the MN Wild and since the Wild are 1 - 1 in playoff series with Colorado where 5 of the games went in OT and the Wild are 1 - 0 in the playoffs VS Vancouver.....

Records don't mean shiat. It's the context of the matchups that create a rivalry.

Yippie...I know there is a buzz around town when the Avs come to town  (I worked at the X for many an Avs game...no one cared)

Brent hit the nail on the head...

Since the Wild's inception pretty much everyone has wanted us to be playing the old Norris teams especially the Hawks, Blues and Wings. Within 2 years of realignment I doubt if 1% of the Wild fans give a crap they aren't playing Colorado. (some will care about the Canucks I will grant you that) Regional rivalries are what make the NHL (minus the Original Six which is different) not forced rivalries based on unbalanced schedules.

edit: I say this as someone who didnt even watch the North Stars play in the Norris...but I want Minnesota teams to beat the snot out of teams from Chicago and Detroit...in any sport, at any time!

I for one, welcome Detroit's free spot in the semi-finals every year.

Me too, I was too young to enjoy that setup, but so it's new to me. And whatever makes the NHL less like the NBA works fine for me.

*raises hand*

I know quite a few people who wanted to see Colorado in the new division.
