Swap Carolina and Columbus and I like it a lot.

I could also accept having the inter-divisional matchups at the SC Semis being some that's set Each season, but rotates (similar to the way NFL regular season inter-divisional games are set up). But reseeding works as well.

Nobody said it has to drop to 4 divisions. Leave it at six.


Northeast - BOS, MTL, TOR, BUF, OTT
East - NYR, NYI, NJD, PHL, PIT
Southeast - FLA, WAS, NSH, TPA, CAR

Central - CHI, DET, MIN, STL, CBJ
Prairie - EDM, CAL, DAL, WIN, COL
West - LA, ANA, SJ, VAN, PHX

One alternate is to put Columbus in the SE and Nashville in the Central.

I am also in favor of keeping the six divisions.

i didn't grow up with this regionalizationism.... my childhood was the Norris division with

montreal
los angeles
detroit
washington
pens.

four division winners got into the playoffs with a bye. eight remaining teams made the playoffs and had a best of three.. those winners would play quarterfinals against the division champs. then four teams to the semi-finals. then the Cup.

you traded your #1 pick every year to some good team (philly, montreal) for over the hill has been/never been that much stars and barely make the playoffs when you did.

you played 80 games and skated dave schultz after philly was done with him, and he had 325+ penalty minutes.

and you loved it!!!

and.that's.the.way.it.was!!!

Surely there are more details to come. Specifically, what the scheduling will be like in and out of division/conference, and how playoffs are determined.

Top four of each "conference" make the playoffs (meh, going to be more griping), two rounds of "conference" playoffs (fine), final four are reseeded on points (awful).

So, even if we're bringing back the old names, which I doubt, we're going to be losing the Campbell bowl and Prince of Wales trophies, because I don't know how you award them in this scenario.

They don't want two non-plural team names in the same group anymore. Avalanche v. Wild has always made me cringe.

Also, what Colorado rivalry are you talking about? The Wild don't have any true rivals. The Canucks come the closest, but I am not sad to bid them adieu.

I'm down with the Minnesota and Winnipeg rivalry being built up. Also, like that the Rangers can beat the Isles, Scumbags (Flyers), Ratings Killers (Devils), and Divers (Pens).

Not really. Chi-town was the old-school one. Talk about hatred! The Vancouver one was built over a few games here and there, but I think lacked the true black heart that the Chicago one had.
