NHL 2024: SLC Puck

Is there anyone in history who cashed in more on one fluke event than Eruzione?

Yeah, I know. Flutie.
One event, sure. But it very much wasn't a fluke. They worked super hard to win that game, and when you re-look at parts of the game, the "college kids" dominated the game. I know you have a strong distaste for team USA for whatever sport, but don't sell these guys short. They earned that win.

Yeah, it's always worth it for Canada to lose because of the inevitable Canadian Media Meltdown and the entertainment that would bring.

But I'm not going to be sad if the US loses.
Given the hype for this game, there will be some meltdown in the US media. Although you will just see it as lack of coverage, just like it always is. ESPN has gone overboard, to the point of really pressuring the NBA to do something better. Lose this game, and "The Point" goes back to a 30 min show, and no coverage on the talking heads shows.

(even though, the NHL is doing better as a live spectator sport than the NBA)

Saw that ESPN at least made the game available to Disney+ subscribers. Was probably pretty difficult to get the game moved to ABC.

The wife is busy so I am watching. Don’t really give a hell who wins, though. After getting off social media I don’t see Canada’s meltdowns anymore, so meh.

*Ahem*

The Miracle On Ice is overrated

Losing to Canada in OT when it matters- Tradition.

Note Bill Guerin: Spend less time sucking up to Dump, spend more time finding a defense that won't leave the best player in the world wide open in the slot.
Slavin and Faber were phenomenal. Adam Fox sucked

Brock Faber, #1 defensive pair on team and most TOI of all players- and yet wasn’t good enough to be on the ice in the ncaa Title game OT

The icing gave Cooper a rare opportunity in that game to get McDavid away from Faber and Slavin.

And that’s all she wrote

I think the usual game plan is to not leave the best player in the world with six feet of free ice.
It was pretty ironic that the D failed so very badly at the end of the game when most common subject for the talking heads was how good the US defense was. When you see the replay and two players were nowhere near anyone, and McJesus standing all by himself in the slot- what in the world were they thinking?

Entertaining game to watch if one could get through the speeches and building it up needlessly. Let alone showing the team listening to the moron telling them to win.

I went to bed satisfied that I got my money's worth watching the play on the ice. And having no real feeling that "my" team lost.
