NHL 2018-19 Part 1 - No power outage in Toronto this year!!

Re: NHL 2018-19 Part 1 - No power outage in Toronto this year!!

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/behind-scenes-2017-nhl-draft-lottery-gary-bettman/

"More than an hour prior to the start of the televised draft lottery segment a group of approximately two dozen people, including NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, members of his staff, some of the production crew, plus various representatives from the teams involved in the lottery are gathered up. These representatives are different than the ones we see on set during the TV broadcast. For example, Kris Draper, Detroit’s special assistant to GM, was the Red Wings’ on-screen representative while the team’s director of player development Shawn Horcoff was in the sequester room.
We get escorted up to the top floor inside CBC headquarters in downtown Toronto. Once you’re there, you’re taken up two more flights of stairs and you wind your way through a labyrinth of hallways. You pass through several heavy, red doors until you reach a room. The room."

Went down a big NHL history rabbit hole yesterday on YouTube:

-Good Friday Massacre 1984 playoffs
-Battlin' Billy Smyth
-"The High Stick", Kings vs. Leafs '93 Game 6
-The Russian 5 game debut
-Mogilny's defection
-Kariya post-career interview including talking about the Stevens hit

What the ****
The guy was before my time but he was known for being a nutcase in the net so I can't say I'm overly shocked :D. (and even as someone who still plays the position I will say that goalies are weird!)

That man brought us 4 Cups. He can be as crazy as he wants.

Re: NHL 2018-19 Part 1 - No power outage in Toronto this year!!

My North Stars were victims to the Isles juggernaut in '81. That squad was just too good for the plucky North Stars who no one expected to reach that year's finals as a 9 seed. As a 13 y.o. still playing hockey the North Stars were effing royalty. My brother was a "puck boy" so I was lucky enough to attend at least 1 home playoff game for all 4 rounds that year.

They would face off against Boston in round 1 - a franchise that had had it's way with my squad for years not just on the scoreboard but kicking their *** physically up and down the ice. Some pretext to the matchup was Fight Night that iirc Glenn Sonmor used to send a message that if these teams would meet in the playoffs the North Stars weren't ever going to again be someone's *****.

R1 against the Bruins - 3-0 series sweep including G1 in OT at BOS and a 9-6 mauling at BOS the next night.
R2 against Buffalo - 4-1 series win including another G1 OT win on the road
R3 against Calgary - MN was again the underdog and won in 6 games. Game 6 at Met Center was easily one of my greatest sports memories
SCF against NYI - whatever

Rookies that year included Don Beaupre, Neal Broten and Dino Ciccarelli (who at the time set a rookie record for points in the playoffs), local kids Tom Younghans, Jack Carlson and Mike Polich, another 1980 Olympian and former Gopher Steve Christoff, the Red Menace's Mike Eaves, and guys you just had to love like Bobby Smith (93 points that season), Kent-Erik Andersson, Craig Hartsburg, Tom McCarthy, Curt Giles, Brad Maxwell, Tim Young, Al MacAdam.

Unfortunately NYI had other world talent like Bossy, Trottier, Clark Gillies, Denis, Potvin (70+ points as a D?), Nystrom, Ken Morrow in his R year after the Olympics and of course Billy Smith.

The Minnesota Wile are nice, but the North Stars were are our team.

RIP :(

[edit] the playoffs format back then was perfect. 1-16 and reseed each round.

I'd be all for going back to that (as long as the schedules were even). Though just about anything would be better than the broken divisional format they currently have.

32 teams: have 31 home and homes for a 62-game RS, seed them 1-32 and take the top 16. Get rid of the shoot out and have ties after 5 mins of 5x5. Where do I sign?

Still no proof eh?
How much tinfoil you wearing?

How much proof could someone like me have? The entire premise that I could provide proof for such a thing is ridiculous. Like everyone I will believe what I want to believe. You can think it's tinfoil or not, I really don't give a ****. I live in a country that has Donald Trump as its President. As far as I am concerned this is as believable as that.

Gary Bettman has been ****ing Minnesota up the *** ever since he became commissioner. Of that I have little doubt.
