Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

There's one problem. The design of the arena allows for only 14500 seats for hockey.
The Islanders have averaged under 14,000 every year since the lockout; I have to guess that they'd rather sell out a 14,500 seat arena (plus 100 luxury suites in the Barclays Center vs. 32 in the Coliseum) than have one that seats 16,250 be only 80% full.

The location makes it easier for fans to come as well. It's probably a lot easier to get to Brooklyn than Long Island.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Is this new building going to the Nets new home? Wouldn't the Islanders be playing 2nd fiddle to them?

Not saying it's a bad place to start, I just think that they could be stuck in the Nets shadow for a LONG time to follow if the Nets take root...

Yes, and the final iteration of the arena is, from what I have heard, not the ideal arena for hockey.

Both wingers drop the gloves to open Devils-Rangers. 0:02 in, 2 fights.

Toronto @ Detroit for the Winter Classic in the Big House to be made official Thursday at news conference(s) according to Bobby McKenzie.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Some nostalgia today for me. Owen Nolan retires a Shark and Evgeni Nabokov puts on a clinic with a 45 save shutout behind essentially 4 NHL defensemen for the Islanders and blanking the Flyers in the shootout on top of it.

In the Bruins-Sabres game, there had to be the worst no goal call ever. "Incidental Contact" by a Bruin on Miller. I have to question if Miller was even touched, and if its not even a penalty, can you waive the goal off?

Heh. Have you met Tomas Holmstrom, or any Red Wing fan?

As a Sabres fan, that was one of the worst no-goal calls I've seen. Not because of the "how can you waive off the goal if it's not a penalty?" thing, but because A) Miller was barely touched, B) He initiated the contact, C) He was out of the crease (or at least very, very close to out of the crease).

And D) The puck was just about past him when the contact was made.

That goal counts and who knows, it might be a different game. But the Bruins were thoroughly outplayed tonight.

Yeah. Most definitely a goal.

So, Red Wings-Maple Leafs for next year's Winter Classic!
