Tipping!!! That should be a penalty. Although it was ovechkin and he should still be suspended so I bet that is why it wasn't called.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

How did that not count as a goal? Boyle has every right to be ****ed.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

So a Caps fan friend of mine is whining about that weak *** slash.

I reminded him of the weak *** slash by Pouloit that handed Washington Game 5 last series...he shut up real quick.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

Pretty clear we're destined for NY vs. LA.

You've got a 1 seed that beat a 8 and a 7 facing a 6 and a 8 seed that beat a 1 and a 2 facing a 3.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

Was it me or did that kind of seem like an uninspired Game 7?

Conference Semifinals recap post!

Using Bradley-Terry rankings (i.e., KRACH) found here, it was possible to break down the probabilities of each possible outcome of the four series. Here's how those initial projections stacked up:

West
STL-LAK
Initial projection: St. Louis in 5, 22.0%
Overall projection: St. Louis wins, 73.8%
Actual outcome: Los Angeles in 4
Initial possibility: 2.21% (8th most likely of 8)

PHX-NSH
Initial projection: Nashville in 6, 18.7%
Overall projection: Nashville wins, 61.5%
Actual outcome: Phoenix in 5
Initial possibility: 8.83% (7th most likely of 8)

East
NYR-WAS
Initial projection: New York in 5, 21.2%
Overall projection: New York wins, 72.1%
Actual outcome: New York in 7
Initial possibility: 16.5% (3rd most likely of 8)

PHI-NJD
Initial projection: Philadelphia in 6, 19.2%
Overall projection: Philadelphia wins, 63.7%
Actual outcome: New Jersey in 5
Initial possibility: 8.18% (7th most likely of 8)

How I (the numbers) did: 1 winner (wrong length) and 3 wrong winners. In other words, awfully.

The reverse jinx is 2-0. :)

Excuse me but do you have a ticket to jump back on the Bandwagon? You turned in your Ranger's fan card a while back. It will now cost you to get back on and cheer for them.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

Based on Bradley-Terry rankings (i.e., KRACH) found here, the updated (after 5/12) most likely outcomes are:

PHX in 6 (16.4%)
NYR in 6 (19.2%)

Overall winning probabilities:
PHX 52.8% - LAK 47.2%
NYR 63.4% - NJD 36.6%

As always, KRACH is not a perfect predictive system. In fact, it's not predictive at all; it's retrodictive. Home-ice advantage, momentum, and the like can not be accounted for reliably, so they are ignored.

Remarks: Here we are in the Conference Finals... Phoenix-LA looks to be pretty evenly matched, but the numbers have been underestimating the god**** Kings since the beginning. On the other coast, the Rangers look to have their hardest battle yet, but that's not saying much.

Next Round possibilities:
Code:
-------------------
| S | ECF |
| C |-----------|
| F | NYR | NJD |
|-----------------|
|W|PHX|33.5%|19.3%|
|C|---|-----------|
|F|LAK|30.0%|17.3%|
-------------------

Needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few... or the one.

I realize I'm a curse. It's been proven in many fantasy leagues that I'm in. I'm the kiss of death. If I can use that knowledge to get the Rangers a Cup so be it.

I recall the scene in "The Fan" where Wesley Snipes' character is struggling and can't get a hit. He then snaps his slump. He is playing catch with Robert DeNiro's character and he asks Snipes why he broke out of his slump. Snipes retorts, "I just stopped caring."

That goal made Chris Osgood cringe.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

Hunter out, Ovechkin still in..

(SIGH)

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

No player should have that much power. Any ideas on who the Caps take for Ovie's next victim?
