Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

Who's looking forward to eight more years of Ilya "Universh" Bryzgalov in Philly? ;)

Hey, he has as many assists as any other goalie in the playoffs...you know how hard it is to hit a guy with a pinpoint pass, right on the stick, for a deflection...with a goalie stick? That doesn't just happen by accident, you have to have a special talent to assist on the game winner in an elimination game from the crease.

the whole building let out a collective "well, that's the end of that" sigh after that goal.

Say what you will of the Devils style, the Flyers knew it, saw it and never adjusted to it.

Sitting there, I said to the guy next to me, "there hasn't been one lucky bounce or call for the Flyers all night" every time there was a close play or you could see something developing, the gods didn't smile on the men in orange and black. They needed something to break the rhythm and get them going and it never happened.

credit to the Devils on that, the name of the game is win and advance, which they did

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

Based on Bradley-Terry rankings (i.e., KRACH) found here, the updated (after 5/8) most likely outcomes are:

West: LAK in 4 (100%), PHX in 5 (100%)
East: NYR in 6 (60.5%), NJD in 5 (100%)

Overall winning probabilities:
West
STL 0.00% - LAK 100.0%
PHX 100.0% - NSH 0.00%

East
NYR 84.4% - WAS 15.6%
PHI 0.00% - NJD 100.0%

As always, KRACH is not a perfect predictive system. In fact, it's not predictive at all; it's retrodictive. Home-ice advantage, momentum, and the like can not be accounted for reliably, so they are ignored.

Remarks: That's 3 upsets now, but our numbers say there is only about a 1 in 6 chance of there being a fourth. Also, the Kings are dumb meanie-faces.

Next Round possibilities:
Code:
West
PHX - LAK

-------------------
|EAST | HOME |
|CONF.|-----------|
|FINAL| NYR | NJD |
|-----------------|
| |NJD|84.4%|XXXXX|
|A|---|-----------|
| |WAS|XXXXX|15.6%|
-------------------

I'd have never thought in my wildest dreams that the Yotes would not only get to the western conference finals, but they'd get home ice advantage to boot! But, LA is white hot, so I expect it'll be a real battle.

You even ***** about the refs on an off day! Amazing from someone who "rarely complains about the officiating." yet 90% of your posts have been just that. Clearly, the rangers are just being screwed all the time, even when they're not playing.

I pray the rangers lose the next two games and ovie scores all the goals. That would be great considering he should be serving a 400 game suspension.

I dont even know why JMH watches hockey with all the complaining he does. If something isn't fun, do something else.

That said, this series and playoff series has been nothing short of amazing - even with the Bs out! Whoever said watching NJ was boring is wrong. They are playing some inspiring hockey right now. Heres hoping washington can bring this thing to 7 and maybe irk a victory out and make for an interesting final four..

The New York media is pulling hard for the Rangers. Not because they like the team, but there are less than 10 miles between Madison Square Garden and the Prudential Center.

So that's what, 2.5 hours in traffic :p

Who died and made you thread police, or anyone of any other capacity whose opinion I should give a crap about?

Am I the only one who's been pointing out the confusing officiating in these playoffs? Hardly. And if you're actually deciding who you're rooting for in the playoffs based on someone you've never met posting on a message board, you need a hobby.

Edited to remove overreaction.

No complaints about the refs tonight. The Rangers just aren't playing well enough.

Fluky bounces do indeed even out, and in the end what we're left with is the Rangers playing like crap. Way to show up, guys.

Of course others have complained about the officiating and it's fine as long as it's within reason. Nobody else is constantly whining and posting on a play by play basis about how horrible it is. And I'm hardly the only one who is tired of your repetitive whining.

And I definitely haven't picked Washington to win based on anything relative to you. Go back and read my posts from the start of the playoffs and you'll see New York is one of the 6 or 7 teams that I wanted to lose. I was just rooting for Ovechkin to score all the goals in the last two games since he is the player you've overreacted about the most.
