NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

If the Rangers took the time that they turn to the refs whining about a missed call and use it to skate towards the net, the Rangers would be leading. Good lord, Del Zotto and Richards have been acting as if the Devils killed a baby on the ice the way they've been gesturing towards the referees.

Nice interference no call entering the zone on the goal.

And Callahan gets away with a vicious 4 minute high stick.

Whewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww................

No fun to outplay someone and still lose.

OK, everyone who had Ryan Carter with the GWG raise their hand.

Purple Cows' alumni getting some prime time playing time.

Devils have outplayed us 3 of the first 4 and we were tied series. And they dealt the 3-0 blow in the first 10 mins of the game that we were never able to fully overcome.

Their depth is the difference. Plain and simple.

Bickel is freaking pitiful.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

I have to admit, I've been a little confused seeing the name Gionta in a Devils sweater again. My first thought was, "Did I miss something at the trade deadline?" But now I see it's Brian's younger bro (I'm assuming).

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

At the end of the day, the Rangers deserve to be where they are. They've had an easy route to the finals (on paper, at least - how rare is it that the 1 seed gets 8-7-6? And then the 8 in the finals from the west too) but they've played down to weak opposition for 19 games now, when they should be beating these teams in 5-6 games if they skated as hard and played as aggressively all game every game as they did when they were behind tonigh.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

Weak opposition? The Rangers aren't a playoff team without Lundqvist. We have the same amount of talent if not less than every team we played. The difference was our goaltender was better in both of the previous two series. Now we've been through 2 seven game series and are only playing three lines with 4-5 defense. We don't have the depth to match the Devils four lines and an equally good goaltender.

This just shows the parity in the league this year with the 8 seed coming out of the West and possibly the 6 in the East.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

Take every team's best player away and they're a lot worse, that's just how it works. The Rangers have been lucky enough not to have to play the Bruins and the Flyers and the Penguins, all of whom are better than the three teams they HAVE played. There's a reason they were 6-7-8

Agreed. Devils are playing.....I dunno, horseshoe up their arse? Playing like they care (insert old joke about how they don't care until the playoffs?), no clue. I'm enjoying the ride, and right now everything is a bonus.

I think getting Travis Zajac back has been a big difference. He missed 60+ regular season games, but looks healthy now.

Agreed, he factored into their scoring when he was healthy and only adds to their depth up front. However, everyone on NJ is contributing, even their D who normally don't factor into the scoring. We don't have stevens or Niedermeyer anymore, but it seems the D is more willing to pinch which keeps the forcheck going. I am surprised at how infrequently the D have gotten outright beat with D1 pinching on the boards but it seems like its the second/third forward who help out here..

That was an awful ending to the Coyotes' season. So much anger for one handshake line.

It all comes down to coaching, and DeBoer is thumping Torts. I just wish Pierre had left his mic open the other night! That would have made for great TV. :D

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

No hockey and crappy Mets game makes burgie something, something. Go crazy? Don't mind if I do!

The Devils have the chance to close out the series tonight. If they do, then pardonme goes into the Cup Finals with a 9-point lead and there will only be 8 posters (7 plus KRAPH) with a chance to win the whole thing. Realistically, though, it would pretty much be down to pardonme, UMBlackBear43, and myself.

If the Rangers can post a win in the Prudential Center tonight, then pardonme will have a 20-point lead heading into the final round. Picking the correct winner will be enough to guarantee himself at least a share of the win. If the ECFs do go to 7 games, then we'd be down to 7 posters with a chance, 4 of us (adding in Priceless) with any kind of a realistic shot.

PS KRAPH says that the Devils have a 45.3% shot at winning tonight.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

PS KRAPH says that the Devils have a 45.3% shot at winning tonight.

Based on Bradley-Terry rankings (i.e., KRACH) found here, the updated (after mm/dd) most likely outcomes are:

LAK in 5 (100%)
NJD in 6 (45.3%)

Overall winning probabilities:
PHX 0.00% - LAK 100.0%
NYR 29.9% - NJD 70.1%

As always, KRACH is not a perfect predictive system. In fact, it's not predictive at all; it's retrodictive. Home-ice advantage, momentum, and the like can not be accounted for reliably, so they are ignored.

Next Round possibilities:
Code:
-------------------
| S | ECF |
| C |-----------|
| F | NYR | NJD |
|-----------------|
|A|LAK|29.9%|70.1%|
-------------------

Have I clinched last, yet? I think I picked 7 of the 8 first round series wrong. That's hard to do.
