NFL '24-25- lots of potential, any reality?

Just saw the safety and wow was that an awful non-call.

Hopefully now they will allow the video assist to call obvious penalties as opposed to just overturn obvious bad penalties. Seems kind of stupid to have a system to overturn a penalty but not call one. The only view that didn't show a face mask was the one from the ref behind them- every other one showed it. JUST LIKE had he got the shoulder pads, and they called a face mask, that call would have been overturned by video assist.

The Lions won the game 52-14 with 61 total passing yards. Goff had 12/15, 85 yards, 3 TDs.

I missed most of the game, but do sacks count against passing yards?

When I saw the score, I was worried they ran up the score, but the only trick play was to make sure a TE got a TD on TE day.

Yes sacks count against passing yards. He took 4 sacks for -33(?).

Sacks don’t count as negative rushing or passing yards in the NFL. Only college do they count as negative rushing yards.

Edit: You’re right. Sacks count against a team’s passing yards (doesn’t make any sense) in the NFL, but not the individual player’s stats. So if Goff threw for 85 yards, that’s what he threw for. Looks like the Lions had 61 total passing yards.

Yeah it is weird how they total the stats. I thought sacks counted against rushing yards of the QB, maybe it did at some time in the past. Idk. Just thought it was funny that they passed for under 100 yards and still had 4 passing TDs, 3 Goff, one Montgomery.

More fun stats - they had more rushing yards (164) than passing yards (61). Yards per play was 6.8 rushing to 4.9 passing. Return yards 72 on kickoffs, 190 punt return yards (with 1 TD).

Ok, where are all those Pats fans???? The rest of the NFL is so very happy for you (for once), your team sucks, but you beat the New York Rogers!!! Epic win!!!

today was Detroit's first game outside. In their 8th game. And the weather was windy, rainy and miserable.

Thankfully, the Lions are really good at running. And have a nice lead in the NFC North.

I felt GB “won” the first half. Moved the ball better, just kept stalling out past midfield while racking up a million penalties.

Second half was trying to play catch-up while the Lions dominated the ground. Didn’t realize until they threw that stat up the Lions are over 50% on 4th down conversions under Campbell.

Aside from the Branch penalty the Lions played a clean game. So I suppose I need to give them credit for doing all the small things to get the victory. A road win in Green Bay, while becoming more common, is still something to celebrate after all.

Trying to decide if the Lions won that game or Green Bay lost it.

I really wish the D would clean up their act. As in their actual acting on the field. The ejection for Branch can be debated, but he put himself into that position when the ball was already dropped- pretty pointless. And then the follow up 15... come on. And then the late game unsportsmanlike that extended the GB drive into a TD.

When Arnold was making a lot of DPI, I was ok with it, as he was being aggressive and close- just need to understand the difference in the step up. And he learned from it.

But these penalties on what happened today are just selfish plays to make themselves look good. Dan needs to deal with this himself.

Did the ref just miss a face masking call? Darnold has a reason to be horked off right now.

The NFL rulebook apparently has a carve out. Any contact to Sam Darnold's head is perfectly fine. Rip his helmet off, punch him in the head, break his neck by twisting the facemask...no penalty.

The official that original threw that flag will get fined appropriately. Need to know the rules.
