NFL 2023-24. Now without Dan Snyder!

For the Pats fans out there, a fun note to their game- they lost 10-6. 16 total points scored.

There are two more games left this week, the total score was tied by the Bears, more than the Panthers, Jags, and Titans scored, but outscored by every single other team in both wins and losses. And the Bears-Panthers game was a normal terrible Thursday game.

Imagine getting up to watch that "game".

It will be interesting to see if the SNL game have both the jets and raiders outscore that game. Seems that there's a good chance that one of the team won't hit 16, since the jets offense sucks, but their D is really good.

edit- had to change the post and remove the Giants, as they just outscored the 10-6 morning game.

The Lions were the better team today, but like MichVandal said, they certainly let the Chargers back into it. I thought some of those PI calls were ticky-tacky, but it ended up with a walk off FG. I was impressed with how physical the game was. I can't remember a game with so many goal line stands and fourth down conversions. Fun game.

Anybody who hasn’t seen Mac Jones pass near end of game, in the red zone, should watch it. Almost fell out of my chair laughing. How he can under throw it that badly is beyond me.

So WRT our conference rival, I really wonder what the Lions didn't see in Josh Dobbs. He's playing really well for Minnesota, to the point that it's not a stretch to wonder what happens when Cousins comes back. As far as I know, the Lions back up isn't starting material, so it's curious to me that Dobbs didn't beat him out for the #2 or 3 spot here. Good for him to keep working and find a place to show what he can do, though.

I'm sure the berating he's getting on the sideline is making his passing much more accurate. He's now so afraid to fail that he's way overthinking what he's doing and aiming way too much when throwing.

If there's anything that Brady brought to the team, it was his ability to take the beating that he would get for small mistakes. I'm starting to think that's where Belecheck is really losing it- the coaches that have come from his staff have all had a reputation of being bullies to the players. It can work for some people, but it's clearly not working for the team he has now.

Cousins is at the end of his contract, and he won’t be back this season. I expect the Vikings will move on with the assumption that Dobbs keeps scoring.

I feel bad for the kid. A few paragraphs from an article today's Globe,

His confidence is clearly shaken. He looks nothing like the rookie who led New England to a 10-7 record and a playoff berth, who used a few injury replacement slots to snag an invite to the Pro Bowl, who finished second in NFL AP Offensive Rookie of the Year voting and who threw for 3,801 yards with 22 touchdowns against 13 picks.

But Belichick has failed him so much in the two years since.

Replacing the departing McDaniels with the head-scratching, never-run-an-offense-before coaching tandem of Matt Patricia and Joe Judge. Jettisoning them after a season in favor of O’Brien. Putting Jones behind a revolving door of retread offensive lineman around dependable center David Andrews, necessary after letting the likes of Joe Thuney leave just as Jones was arriving or Ted Karras leave after a solid year in front of the rookie Jones. A stunning lack of game-breaking talent at wide receiver, made worse by letting favored Jones target Jakobi Meyers walk away to the Raiders. No interest in retaining solid running back and Jones bestie Damien Harris, and failing to add a good third-down back to give Jones a dependable outlet.

Eighty-three career sacks later, including a season-high five by halftime Sunday, and Jones is a shell of himself. And now, more than ever, the sacks are as much on Jones as they are on the line. He’s jittery, as evidenced by the quick release on the final interception, as he no longer seems willing (or able) to stand in the pocket and take hits, damaged enough that he is hearing footsteps. At this point, he’d be better off without the Patriots as much as they’d be better off without him.

Well, coddling him sure hasn't done it.

That said, Belichick has done everything in his power to make sure that he couldn't be successful. Let his favorite target Meyers go because he spoke up about what a shitshow Belichick was running, only to sign a broken down has been for the same money that Meyers signed for. Let Harris go for the same reason. Knew for a year that he needed a tackle, maybe two, and did nothing except sign a bunch of broken down castoffs from other teams. Knew they needed receiver help, and played the Deandre Hopkins tease for months before finally sayin nuh uh. Benched the best one he drafted early in the season for getting the ball punched out by a defender. Benched the other one all season cause he didn't get his second foot down on a couple of sideline plays in his very first game. Sure taught them a lesson.

That's how bad teams ruin young quarterbacks. And that's what Bill has put together, a bad team.

When did that happen? Didn't under Patricia- we know he's a major bully. And it's not happening now, as he'd being yelled at on the sidelines.

Seems like when he took the team to the playoffs, he was treated reasonably well.

It's hard to remember a game where neither team wanted to win. Denver gave the Bills so many chances to win, and when they got ahead by one, two really dumb penalties let Denver win the game. Epic bad play by both teams.

Best dumb play was right there at the end- Buffalo had 12 guys on the field when the kicker missed ANOTHER FG (two PATs were for naught). Second try finishes the game for the win. What in the world.

These are certainly not the Lions I am used to. Wow. After so very many mistakes- between the turnovers and the penalties that kept Chicago driving, it sure seemed that the 12 point deficit with 4something left was secure. And then a pretty quick drive to make it 5, amazing D, and a game winning drive. Followed by a strip sack that ended up with a safety. What a way to end the game for Detroit.

Lions deserved to lose today, but I am very much not complaining over the outcome. It would be nice to take a few less penalties on 3rd down...
