NFL 2022-23: How About A Lions vs. Jaguars Super Bowl?

Just saw some news that the NFL had a press conference overnight- and the game restart was never going to happen.

If you believe that, I have some ocean front property in Kansas to sell you. I'm also looking to unload this bridge in Brooklyn. Priced to move! Contact my realtor, Ima Sucker, to discuss rates.

If you think that it really matters to you what I think, I've got some swamp land in New Jersey for you.

You do realize, I just reported what I saw on ESPN this morning- not an opinion- just what they reported.

Being as upset as you are, you have my permission to stop watching the NFL. Sound good?

Maybe I'm more jaded that most sports fans, being an auto racing fan where drivers died in the middle of the race, and they kept going. The only race I'm aware of that was stopped was when Dan Wheldon crashed- and it happened so early and was so devastating to the track that they just called it.

F1 races have finished after a death (including one of the GOAT's accident), Indycar and CART finished most races, Endurance racing (Le Mans, Daytona, etc) finished races. And while I would not include Dale Earnhardt's wreck on the last lap- they, too, have finished races after deaths. Heck, some have even finished races when there were deaths in the crowd due to the accident.

Only once was it so bad that anything significant changed- and that was LeMans in 1955 where over 80 in the crowd died in a very bad wreck- and they kept going. The Swiss banned racing after that.

I think we're a bit talking past each other. In my opinion, all of these things are likely true:
  • The refs, having no idea the severity of the situation, likely tried to follow the rules and get the game restarted as soon as possible. The NFL probably urged them to do so.
  • The coaches and, at least most of, the players wanted no part of restarting, at least the ones who were aware of said severity.
  • The NFL, being PR conscious and stupid and dishonest all at the same time, lied about what was happening.
Mich - I think your analogy of the factory explosion is pretty apt, however I think the difference is requiring those that watched their coworkers explode to complete their shift. Yes, work must go on, and fairly soon. But must it go on right now?

Well, the next shift had to be there. And all of the plans to continue on.

As of now, there's no public plan on how the game will continue on.

I get the angst against the NFL, but we should all remember that no matter what we think the NFL was thinking, the "warm up" never started, the players went right to the lockers after the ambulance left, and shortly after that, the coaches met and the on field stuff was being collected to stop the game. It was after all of that the official postponement was announced. The game never restarted and never had any indication that they would actually restart.

So we are all assuming (including me) what the NFL was thinking.

Heck, even now when I go to ESPN, the news is exactly the same as it was when I went to bed last night- that's how tight the patient data is. And there has probably been *some* change since last night over the last 20 hours.

I stopped watching the NFL ages ago. I only watch the Super Bowl for the commercials and the memes.

ESPN stands by its report during the game that the league had told the players to warm up and resume play in five minutes.

This is further corroborated by images of players like Joe Burrow warming up to begin again before cooler heads prevailed.

In other news, Bart Scott was jealous of all the attention being given to Skip Bayless and decided to say something astonishingly stupid.

Blaming Tee Higgins is akin to blaming Mitch Vig for what happened to Travis. It was a horrible accident that will probably haunt his nightmares forever, but it wasn't his fault.

tic- curious that you care so much to be as angry as you are. You can spend your time being so much happier and more productive with your life, but you want to research why you hate the NFL so much. Good on you. And good luck with that, and whatever the next thing you hate and does something that makes you even more mad.

What a colossal waste of your time and effort. And with your distaste of the NFL, your concern of Damar Hamlin is clearly total BS. Oh, wait, you haven't actually posted that you care what so ever about him- just that the NFL is evil. Right.

He’s in the prone position now

had to be resuscitated twice last night

yikes

The one logical speculation I've heard is that he's in a medically induced coma right now. Basically trying to figure out the damage to his brain from the loss of blood flow/ oxygen. But I'm sure we won't hear any actual details until there's a significant change.

You're so adorable.

There was a report that he was intubated at the hospital but, and maybe one of the docs on here can confirm, that is apparently standard procedure for someone receiving CPR.

In a medical setting (meaning having all of the resources available), you will intubate a patient once a pulse is returned. You generally are not intubating a patient when they are pulseless, even in the hospital, as you do not want to take the time to halt chest compressions at all.

Most patients who collapse but "wake up" after a few chest compressions likely just had syncope and did not have a cardiac arrest. This is certainly a scary situation so if you are in doubt about a pulse, just start CPR. A false negative (actually had a pulse) has some broken ribs at worst. A false positive (feel there was a pulse but actually wasn't) you are talking permanent brain damage/death.

You can bag/mask a patient effectively for quite some time and that can be started/continued while chest compressions continue. When you are pulseless, chest compressions>>>>everything else.

That statement doesn't say anything about the NFL supposedly telling them the game would restart.

Apparently awake now and able to grip hands of family members. Still in critical condition

Just heard that- and the talking head doctor on ESPN was suggesting that this is earlier than normal in situations like this. Like you stay, still not out of the woods, but it sure seems he can see a clearing.

They should just invalidate all games from this past weekend to make things fair and even. So if any team lost because, say, they started a retarded shitgibbon at QB when things had been working well for the other guy all season, it wouldn't count.
