NFL 2018.1 The off season

Re: NFL 2018.1 The off season

Because the best way to celebrate America is by punishing freedom of expression.

Private league. They can do what they (generally) want. IIRC, the NBA has a "stand for the anthem" rule, also.

Of course they can. It's a matter of why these 32 particular semi-sentients choose to do so. And that's because of the mouth-breathers who buy the merch and plop in the seats.

Mixing commerce and politics is always a race to the jingoist bottom.

And from a business standpoint, they want to keep their fanbase. Period. Once the tide REALLY starts to change, the NFL will change their tune, just like any other business. Look at how long this concussion thing took...just saying......

I can't wait for all 32 teams to retire number 25 in honor of Richard Sherman in 2050. Right about when the DOD breaks ground on the Tomb of the Unknown Civilian Collateral Damage.

We are always so brave when it's too late.

Re: NFL 2018.1 The off season

Trump had nothing to do with the WFL.

He owned the NJ Generals in the USFL.

The WFL never went to court against the NFL. The USFL did.

You're right, Russell. I got my football alphabet mixed up. But I was thinking about the Jersey Generals/Houston Gamblers/Oakland Invaders/et al. Just anticipating a different outcome in the USFL v NFL case for the Donald was too much to pass up. Take yesterday's news, for example.

For Donald, I'm not sure if the choice is about standing or kneeling for the anthem. He's probably wondering whether or not he should remove that incredible helmet of hair out of respect for America.

And the NFL is a bunch of chickenbleep losers. They want to blame the kneeling for the numbers going down but it isnt the kneeling, it is the watering down of the product and the NFL shocing the product in our face every 12 seconds.

Cole Aldrich seems to think otherwise:

They do have a rule.

“We have a rule that requires our players to stand for the anthem,” Silver said Thursday. “It’s been our rule for as long as I’ve been involved with the league, and my expectation is that our players will continue to stand for the anthem.”

That rule has been in place for decades, and was originally intended to ensure players weren’t shooting or stretching while the anthem was being played before a game. But in the current climate, it comes under greater scrutiny.

In addition to reminding teams about the rule, the memo also stated that teams don’t have discretion to waive the rule, and that the league office “will determine how to deal with any possible instance in which a player, coach or trainer does not stand for the anthem.”

Re: NFL 2018.1 The off season

You know I am might be on the NFL's side about this if they cared half this much about the rest of the stuff their players do that is way more harmful.

Agreed although I'm of the belief the kneeling bit is tired and pointless even if I think they should have the right to make that choice.

Re: NFL 2018.1 The off season

I think half the time they are doing it just to be "part of it" and say "look at me" but this BS that it is somehow an insult to the Flag or veterans is so ridiculous it hurts my head. The NFL pretending they care about any of that anyways is the biggest joke of all time they insult the Flag all the friggin time.
