NFL 2017: With Dollar Signs in Goodell's Eyes

Re: NFL 2017: With Dollar Signs in Goodell's Eyes

I guess I always thought it was spot of the foul because offense holding is almost always at the line.

I've always thought it would make more sense to treat offensive holding similarly to intentional grounding. You're penalized to where the ball was when the foul occurred and you lose the down.

Also, the penalty for a false start shouldn't be any more than what the defense stands to lose if they were to commit an offsides and vice-versa (for goal line situations).

Oh, and while I'm at it. Shouldn't the penalty for offensive PI be that the defense is essentially awarded an interception?

I would prefer rugby rules for extra points. Always from the same yardline, but you have to kick it from the point (laterally) where the ball was touched down. No more hashmarks. Field goals are from the spot of the ball.

ETA: I suppose that isn’t entirely workable. Out of bounds gets moved in what? 10 yards?

I don’t really see where a new XFL is going to play. Either they’re playing in rented out NFL/College stadiums at an exorbitant price or at MLS stadiums but on like Tuesday or Wednesday because the MLS team will hold the weekend dates plus having to pay to replace all the grass they’ll tear up/have lines painted on. I mean, maybe there’s a profit there.

Make out of bounds come back to the center of the field. That would make trying to reach out of bounds before a FG interesting. If you go for it and miss your kicker has the worst possible angle. I like it.

The Tampa Bay Storm (Arena football) just ceased operations, citing poor league revenue and increasing fees to be a member of the league.

Mild take: Vince buys out arena football, reestablishes XFL and uses arenas previously used by AFL.

Is this going to go head-to-head in the fall? If not just make a deal with the NFL stadiums. They hemorrhage money in the off-season.

Even so, is it worth the cost of renting out said stadium for the XFL? Is it worth it to have 20k people in a 70k+ stadium?

Offensive holding is 10 yards from the line of scrimmage, or 10 yards from the spot of the foul if it happens down field and certain other criteria are met. I don't recall all the details at the moment.

Easy way to remember: 10 yards from the spot of the foul or 10 yards from the end of the play. Which ever hurts the offense the most.

One of the biggest mistakes that the XFL made was having games on Sat nights. Your target audience is out at the clubs/bars, and you're not big enough like NFL to get a built-in audience.

IIRC, the XFL also introduced the zipline camera over the field, which the NFL smartly copied.

Re: NFL 2017: With Dollar Signs in Goodell's Eyes

I suppose you are right. They had two cameras. Zip line and the on-field camera. I believe they had both. I was referring to the zip line.but I think they had one on-field.

Either way, the XFL had some good ideas, but taking on the NFL even in a kinda-sorta way is probably not a good idea for a money-making venture.

Was it the XFL that finally forced to NFL to go to NC$$ 2-point conversions? That was a very good idea.

Partially. Personally I think the NCAA has it right, with the 2pt-ers and their OT rules. The NFL's hybrid style is BS.

NBC (the money) wanted Saturday night for their programming
