NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

Same here. It has character, but I prefer central air.

When we were testing out new accounting system out at the finance center, I stayed in a hotel near the French Quarter. The smell of urine in the morning as I left the hotel did not smell like victory.

Yup. That's what happens when a city has 1/3 residents, 1/3 homeless, and 1/3 drunky drunk tourists.

yeah, that is probably the biggest problem with NO. I loved visiting there and checking out stuff, the food, etc...but the smell of urine is not a redeeming quality...

Don't move to NYC.

Re: NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

Toronto doesn't smell like urine. Neither does Seattle. The probable rule is don't live in a city that treats its homeless like sh-t.

1) Frozen urine doesn't smell.
2) Lots and lots of rain.

#24 - New York Jets
Points: 57.2376
Super Bowl Championships:
1 (III)
NFL Championships: 0*
Playoff Appearances: 14 (12-13 (0.480))

The New York Jets come in at #24 on this list. The Jets joined the American Football League in 1960 as the New York Titans, but after three nondescript seasons, changed their name to the Jets. Gang Green struggled early, but attained their most significant success in the late 1960's. In 1968, AFL MVP Joe Namath led the Jets to the AFL Championship before stunning the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III in arguably the greatest upset in Super Bowl history. Namath won another AFL MVP in 1969, and the Jets won their second consecutive AFL East title, but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFL Playoffs. Following the AFL-NFL merger, New York struggled, failing to make their first NFL Playoff appearance until 1981, and didn't win a division championship until 1998. In fact, the Jets have only 4 division championships in their 57 seasons of professional football, the fewest of any Super Bowl champion. The Jets did advance to AFC Championship games in 1982, 1998, 2009, and 2010, but have not appeared in the Super Bowl since Super Bowl III, the longest such streak for any team that has appeared in a Super Bowl. Under current coach Todd Bowles, the Jets had a promising 2015 campaign, but struggled mightily in 2016. While most have written New York off in 2017, the Jets will need to shock many "experts" if they hope to "Jet Up" these rankings.

#24 - New York Jets: 57.2376 Points
#25 - New Orleans Saints: 51.8186 Points
#26 - Arizona Cardinals: 49.1015 Points
#27 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 44.2051 Points
#28 - Cincinnati Bengals: 42.3729 Points
#29 - Atlanta Falcons: 40.6032 Points
#30 - Carolina Panthers: 38.3619 Points
#31 - Jacksonville Jaguars: 9.9472 Points
#32 - Houston Texans: 9.4392 Points

*The New York Jets won the AFL Championship in 1968 before beating the NFL Champion Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III.

Don't move to NYC.
When we returned from our recent trip to New Orleans, a friend who has never been there asked us about the City. I told her I've always thought of New Orleans as the love child of Savannah, Georgia, and circa 1972 Times Square.

That doesn't capture the genuine warmth of N.O., though. Savannah is a proper Southern town, like Charleston or Durham. The people there are not particularly warm, at least by southern standards.

New Orleans is what you'd get if you took the poorest county in Mississippi and drowned it in alcohol, hookers, and musicians.

#23 - Los Angeles Chargers
Points: 68.583
Super Bowl Championships:
0
NFL Championships: 0*
Playoff Appearances: 18 (11-17 (0.393))

The Los Angeles Chargers come in at #23 on this list. The Chargers joined the American Football League in 1960, but after a loss in the inaugural AFL Championship game moved to San Diego, where they would spend the next 56 seasons. The Chargers enjoyed great success in the AFL, advancing to 5 of the first 6 AFL Championships, but only winning 1 title in 1963. From 1966-1978, the Bolts failed to make the postseason, but in the late 1970s and early 1980s they made two trips to the AFC Championship game to go along with two other trips to the NFL playoffs. The next two decades were largely struggles for the Chargers, with the exception of a brief bolt of success in the mid-1990s, which saw the Chargers advance to their lone Super Bowl appearance in 1994. In 2004, the Chargers initially drafted Eli Manning, but traded him on draft day for Phillip Rivers, who would help lead the Chargers back to success. From 2004-2009, the Bolts won 5 of their 15 division championships (the third most for a franchise that has not won a Super Bowl), and advanced to the AFC Championship in 2007. The Chargers have been fairly mediocre since 2009, making the NFL playoffs just once in that time frame. The Chargers moved back to L.A. following the 2016 season, and they will look to get back to making championship game appearances in the near future and charge up these rankings.

#23 - Los Angeles Chargers: 68.583 Points
#24 - New York Jets: 57.2376 Points
#25 - New Orleans Saints: 51.8186 Points

#30 - Carolina Panthers: 38.3619 Points
#31 - Jacksonville Jaguars: 9.9472 Points
#32 - Houston Texans: 9.4392 Points

*The Chargers won the 1963 AFL Championship over the Boston Patriots (51-10).

Re: NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

Who gives a flying eff if I want to live there? And have you been to NO post-Katrina? I have it and was shell of it former self (my first visit was in 1989).

As a matter a fact I have Slappy, and I even took a stroll around the Lower 9th Ward. Perhaps being somewhere interesting is too overwhelming for you hayseeds. :D You sound like the guy out here who was trying to tell us Omaha was the balls and the NCAA hockey tournament should go there.

Since I spend most of my time in the French Quarter and the Garden District, I can't say the city was too different before and after Katrina with the notable exception once again of the Lower 9th Ward.

Re: NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

Actually, I've heard a lot of good about people who took road trips to Omaha.

That's interesting. The natives I have talked to who lived there before and since have all said it's completely different now and that something very important has been lost. It's still a great city but it's like an uprooted tree.

Yes that Applebee's they opened downtown makes all the difference. ;)

I was spending time with a native who lives just outside the French Quarter near Louis Armstrong park. Yes its different if you live there but from a tourist perspective they've cleaned up all the areas you'd visit even when I was there in 2009 maybe?

While much of Omaha is a pretty typical example of a bland, boring midwest city, the Old Market area restaurants, bars and shops are fun, and the College World Series is a spectacular time, especially the pre-game and between game tailgating and bar hopping, and should be a bucket list item for anyone who calls themselves a sports fan.

Yeah, about that. I'd call several countries in the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and SE Asia as fairly interesting. I'm not afraid of a little dirt, culture, etc., etc. Just saying NO is far more than the FQ and it went sadly downhill after Katrina. Still ignores the fact I don't root for teams in the SB based upon whether or not I'd want to live someplace. Although your existence possibly explains why so many people hate the Patriots so maybe there's something to it...

Ummm...I was making light of the rankings which I seem to take a lot less seriously than you. One could deduce I was joking when I said that if Drew Brees was a serial killer I'd testify on his behalf at his sentencing hearing....

I never take this place seriously, Shirley.
