NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

Re: NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

Best uniforms would be more interesting, though the NFL has progressed to "least terrible uniforms" over the last 20 years.

1. Oakland
2. Washington
3. Detroit
4. Green Bay
5. Minnesota
6. Kansas City
7. Pittsburgh
8. Miami
9. New Orleans
...
32. Seattle
You know that this isn't golf, right? The lowest score doesn't win.

#30 - Carolina Panthers
Points: 38.3619
Super Bowl Championships:
0
NFL Championships: 0
Playoff Appearances: 7 (9-7 (0.563))

Carolina has made two Super Bowl appearances, but their short history in the league and failure to bring home the Lombardi Trophy puts the Panthers at #30 on this list. Carolina has put together a strong resume in their 22 seasons, sporting 24 First Team All-Pros, winning 6 division titles, and playing in 4 NFC Championship games. In 2015, the Panthers were arguably the league's best team, going 15-1 in the regular season, but fell just short against a tremendous Denver defense in Super Bowl 50. Carolina disappointed in 2016, but Sir Purr and the Panthers will look to supplant division rival Atlanta and make a return to the Super Bowl in 2017. If they can do that--and perhaps finally capture that elusive Super Bowl Championship--the Panthers will likely move up this list.

#30 - Carolina Panthers: 38.3619 Points
#31 - Jacksonville Jaguars: 9.9472 Points
#32 - Houston Texans: 9.4392 Points

Re: NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

#29 - Atlanta Falcons
Points: 40.6032
Super Bowl Championships:
0
NFL Championships: 0
Playoff Appearances: 13 (9-13 (0.409))

With just a quarter and half left to play, Atlanta led New England 28-3 in Super Bow 51 and was beginning plans for their championship parade. Unfortunately for the Falcons, the Patriots completed one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history, leaving Atlanta not only shocked and titleless, but also in the bottom 4 of these rankings. The Falcons entered the league in 1966, but didn't make a playoff appearance until 1978. Indeed, Atlanta only made 3 trips to the postseason in their first 25 years of existence. Fortunately for fans of the Dirty Bird, Atlanta has been much better in the second quarter-century of existence with 10 trips to the postseason, 5 division championships, and 2 Super Bowl Appearances. More hardware, and perhaps holding on to a huge lead the next time the Falcons appear in the Super Bowl, will likely lead to an improvement on this list. Until then, the Falcons come in at #2.

#29 - Atlanta Falcons: 40.6032 Points
#30 - Carolina Panthers: 38.3619 Points
#31 - Jacksonville Jaguars: 9.9472 Points
#32 - Houston Texans: 9.4392 Points

'Murica's Team.

FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Police say Dallas Cowboys linebacker Damien Wilson has been arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Frisco police say Wilson was arrested Tuesday outside of Toyota Stadium during the city's Fourth of July celebration. Major League Soccer's FC Dallas played Tuesday night at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, a suburb north of Dallas that's home to the Cowboys' practice facility.

#28 - Cincinnati Bengals
Points: 42.3729
Super Bowl Championships:
0
NFL Championships: 0
Playoff Appearances: 14 (5-14 (0.263))

The Cincinnati Bengals come in at #28 on this list. The Bengals came oh so close to winning Super Bowls XVI and XXIII, but fell just short against Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers. Cincinnati owns the league's worst postseason winning percentage, thanks in large part to current Head Coach Marvin Lewis' 0-7 mark in the playoffs, and have the league's longest streak without a playoff victory, currently stretching back to 1990. After missing the playoffs from 1991-2004, the Bengals have won their division 4 times, and have made 7 trips to the postseason, falling in the Wild Card round each time. 2017 will mark Cincinnati's 50th season of professional football, and the Bengals will look to improve on a 6-9-1 season, make the playoffs, and just maybe win a playoff game.

#28 - Cincinnati Bengals: 42.3729 Points
#29 - Atlanta Falcons: 40.6032 Points
#30 - Carolina Panthers: 38.3619 Points
#31 - Jacksonville Jaguars: 9.9472 Points
#32 - Houston Texans: 9.4392 Points

I had to re-read that part very carefully, to make sure you had that part correct. I first read it as "league's longest streak without the playoffs."

Where would they place if they had held on?

I'm sure I'll use that (or a very similar) phrase a little bit later in the rankings. ;)

Re: NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

#27 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Points: 44.2051
Super Bowl Championships:
1 (XXXVII)
NFL Championships: 1 (2002)
Playoff Appearances: 10 (6-9 (0.4))

Tampa Bay comes in at #27 on this list. The Buccaneers have played 41 seasons in the NFL, but their heyday must be considered the period between 1997 and 2007, where Tampa Bay went to the playoffs 7 times, winning 4 of their 6 division titles and their lone Super Bowl. Indeed, if not for absolutely crushing the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII, the Buccaneers would likely be in the bottom 3 of this list. Tampa Bay has the league's worst winning percentage (38.9%, nearly 4% lower than anyone else) thanks in small part to an NFL record 26 game losing streak, has never fielded an MVP, and has only won 6 playoff games (half of which came during their Super Bowl run). The Bucs do seem to be on the right track, going 9-7 in 2016. If Tampa Bay can get back to the playoffs (where they haven't been in a decade) and perhaps recreate their success from the late 90s and early 00s, they will likely move up this list.

#27 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 44.2051 Points
#28 - Cincinnati Bengals: 42.3729 Points
#29 - Atlanta Falcons: 40.6032 Points

Re: NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

There's got to be some consideration here for TB considering that they beat the loathsome Raiders to win their only Super Bowl. Kicked the sh !t out of them as I recall (true story, that meaningless end of game pick-six won me the office pool). That alone should give them some extra juice.

When the time comes, same thing applies to New Orleans. Drew Brees could turn out to be a serial killer, and I'd show up in court at his sentencing hearing telling the judge "yeah, okay he may have killed 15 innocent people...BUT, let me remind you that he did beat Peyton Manning in the Super Bowl thus sparing us 10 bazillion annoying commercials during the off-season your honor".

Re: NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

NO being in that SB was a travaschmockery. I've never watched one second of that game and never will. ***** Drew Brees. ***** their dirty defense and ***** all the suffering that city played into a championship.

What he said.

By this standard the Giants are the greatest franchise in history.

I only saw the last two minutes of that game. To have something make you laugh and cheer so much when you had no real interest in the event before it started, is there anything that can really top that?
