Re: NFL 2015: Let's Talk About Balls

Did I hear right that the Jets' fans actually cheered their choice?

Re: NFL 2015: Let's Talk About Balls

They're letting fans on the stage to read the picks in the 3rd round. This is just a great idea...

Re: NFL 2015: Let's Talk About Balls

Tom Brady and Bill Belichik accused of being naughty, playing with their balls.

Ted Wells' investigation into the possibility that the New England Patriots were involved in deflating footballs for the AFC championship game has found that it's more likely than not some of the Patriots were guilty.

"Based on the evidence developed in connection with the investigation and summarized in this Report, we have concluded that it is more probable than not that New England Patriots personnel participated in violations of the NFL Playing Rules and were involved in a deliberate attempt to circumvent those rules," the report, released Wednesday, said.

With that line on Page 121 of the massive report, it again questions the validity of the Patriots' great dynasty, which included a Super Bowl victory this past February, the fourth for coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady.

Gotta love all the "probables" thrown out there by the NFL. Don't want to come right out and say it.

"We feel certain that something was going on, but we didn't really find any 'direct evidence.' We built a circumstantial case that would probably hold up under a 'preponderance of the evidence' standard but would not hold up if a 'beyond a reasonable doubt' standard were used instead."

So is Goodell going to apply civil court standards or criminal court standards when he assesses punishment?

He's going to apply NFL standards. I.E. Make this **** up as we go.

Re: NFL 2015: Let's Talk About Balls

cause the guilty are lying

but not under oath ;) in which case they could merely cite their right to remain silent to avoid self-incrimination. And in every jury instruction I've ever heard of, jurors are not supposed to infer anything whatsoever any time a defendant invokes said right.

or, like St. Clown said.

Not sure where their bread is buttered.

On the one hand, they practically dislocate a shoulder with all the reach-arounds they give the Pats. OTOH, they know that 99% of the NFL fan base and 100% of the non-aligned general public loathes Bastan Fan. The NFL has never been too good about choosing when the fame whore and the $$$ are on different ends.

Maybe just have an SNL lobster poll: the MNF audience votes on suspending for life either Brady, Belichick, or Kraft.

So, your thoughts....what do you think would've happened if at the start of all this, Brady just said something like...

"[siiigh]....You know, I have our equipment guys get the balls to where I'm comfortable. I honestly didn't feel that was out of the ordinary. All QBs like to control that. But at the end of the day, I take responsibility for it. It didn't matter at all at the end of the day so it really shouldn't be a big deal." blah blah blah

I'm just disappointed that he didn't own up to it - he's now looked on as a liar. My favorite NY headline was "Pretty Little Liar" ha ha!

Had he owned it from the start, he could've been barred from playing in the Super Bowl. There's no way he would've done that. He won't do it now because people have continued to make such a big deal out of it, so the equipment guys are left to take the blame - especially the guy that really doesn't much care for him.

Re: NFL 2015: Let's Talk About Balls

People like mookie (butthurt steeler fans, etc) would think pats were guilty even if ted wells absolved them...report was irrelevant when it comes to court of public opinion.

Not even saying pats are innocent but one thing i don't get is why the league basically allowed the first half of afc title game to be played with deflated balls if it's such a big advantage (brady played better with properly inflated balls in 2nd half and had a monster super bowl against legion of boom).

Would have made more sense to randomly test the balls right before game, document it, inflate them back up and play first half with properly inflated balls. You still could have investigated how they became deflated while not allowing the deflated balls to be used.
