Flight out of Denver on Monday morning. Someone at United having some fun!

(I've done the same at work before, edited that message on a flight to O'Hare...when the Pats beat the Bears in the regular season last year IIRC.)

Re: NFL 2011: The Suck for Luck edition

You know, for all the crap he gets...Tebow is the best thing to happen to Christianity in ages.

A positive role model who uses his faith to improve his life and the lives of others instead of as an excuse to tear people down, actually follows the teachings of the really nice guy with the beard, and is clearly happy with the role of his faith in his life. Christianity needs a positive influence to win people over from the "everyone else is gonna burn in hell cuz t3h Bibble tells me so" mess the fundies have landed them in. I hope and pray (sigh) he doesn't go all derpy. I'd rather have Tim Tebow as the face of my faith than Pat Robertson, that's for sure.

So is Jesus one of these "fundies" you are talkiing about? Cuz that's pretty much exactly what He said. If we "fundies" tell you that if you don't repent and place your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Saviour you will spend eternity separated from Him in Hell it's only because Jesus said the exact same thing (and He said it over and over and over again). And I'd like to tell you that when Jesus was saying that, He was saying it not to the beer swilling, couch surfing, co-ed bopping, eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die types, He was saying it to the Pharisees and Saducees, the most moral people of the day. The people you would call religious freaks today. So if the most moral, religious, fundamentalists were, in Jesus words not mine, bound for Hell, how much moreso the totally immoral who make no pretenses about flaunting their sin?

So why do we awful, killjoy Christians go around telling people they are going "to burn in Hell"? For the same reason you throw a drowning person a rope, or run into a burning building to pull someone out of a fire. Because you care about them; because you love them and don't want them to spend eternity separated from God. Because that is the Gospel. It's the Gospel Jesus preached, and the only one He gave us to preach. I can throw the rope or run into the building but if you refuse to grab on, or follow me out then there's not much else I can do. However, when you are standing before God and He asks you why you refused to repent and accept His offer of salvation you won't have the luxury of saying "why didn't you send someone to show me the way?"

Sorry for hijacking this thread, that is all I will say on the subject.

Yes Tim Tebow practices what he preaches and I think that more than anything is what drives people nuts about him.

As a non-practicing Roman Catholic (was raised that way), but still spiritual (for lack of a better word; me and God have a deal), I could not care less what he preaches/follows/whatever. My opinion of him is strictly on-the-field.

Threatening people with eternal ****ation if they don't convert to your belief system - now that is compassionate.

I pity those who are so weak-minded as to fall for such BS.

Re: NFL 2011: The Suck for Luck edition

Ummm...getting back to the secular world of playoff football, who do people like this weekend?

Pats-Denver: I think this is a closer game than last time because Denver limits the turnovers. However, Pats sound sufficiently charged up about not winning a playoff game since the 2007 AFC championship. For that reason I think they'll win by 10.

Baltimore-Houston: Baltimore wins this one even though Flacco sucks and is going against a good D. Given that Lewis and Reed are both approaching 50 years old, I expect this to be the Ravens' last ride, and don't think they'll fall at home.

Giants-Green Bay: Too much upset talk in this game to catch the Packers by surprise. One costly pick by Eli Gump puts the game away for the Pack.

Saints-San Fran: Not sure who's favored here, but I think Saints pull it out. Can't resist wanting to see Saints-Packers for the NFC championship.

I LOVED this sequence:

Is Tim Tebow good at football?

No.

Really?

Well, he's better at football than, say... me? He's a good athlete and a good runner. He tends to have a few terrific moments every game, especially in the fourth quarter. There are plenty of people who will tell you that he is a good, or even a great quarterback. But the thing is, he can't throw. I mean, literally, he can throw a football: he knows how to move his arm with the football in his hand, and he remembers to let go and everything. The football even stays in the air, and even goes in the right direction ("forward"). But it rarely makes it successfully into the hands of its intended receiver.

It's the like The Doctor trying to explain something and rambling on for a while. Quite hilarious.

Yesterday was the deadline to submit proposals for a new Vikings stadium, apparently 3 proposals were submitted. Ramsey County submitted a proposal for their Arden Hills plan for the stadium to be at the old munitions plan, Minneapolis submitted a proposal for a stadium at the Metrodome site, and Shakopee submitted a proposal for a stadium adjacent to Valley Fair. Ramsey County's proposal was 148 pages long, Minneapolis's was 4 pages long. Minneapolis FAIL.

How long was Los Angeles proposal? ;)

It doesn't exist because the Vikings won't move there.

Also, if Zigi really wanted to push the issue he would have had LA submit a bid during this whole embarrassing cluster of a f*k.

Remember when people were worrying that a stadium wouldn't get built?

Seems to me like they skipped a couple steps in getting approval from the public. Again.

That's the way government works. Your representative represents you. If they vote for something, that is getting approval from the public.
