Re: NFL 2010: Now Extended By Two More Posts

Hmm, learned something new I guess. I thought the "ground can't cause a fumble" would apply in this situation.

I think it has to do with opponents' contact with the player in possession of the ball.

Re: NFL 2010: Now Extended By Two More Posts

Eli is a bigger moron than Asante. Why not slide? You already have the first down.
Doesn't Rex Ryan have some sort of revolutionary mandatory-slide fine system in place? Others should adopt it! :)

Re: NFL 2010: Now Extended By Two More Posts

So now Asante hangs on to the Eli INT.:mad::mad:

Al Michaels is just the latest example, but why has pretty much the entire sports media decided to paper over Eli's refusal to play in San Diego? Michaels said, "Eli Manning was drafted No. 1 by San Diego and then wound up going to the Giants in a trade that day." That's accurate but certainly far from a full, honest description of what transpired.

Eli Manning told the Chargers he wouldn't play for them, so they decided to instead draft and trade him. Why not just say that?

a better question is... what is your obsession with the mannings?

Re: NFL 2010: Now Extended By Two More Posts

Holy crap. There better be AT LEAST $100,000 in fines handed out for H2H contact in the NYG-PHI game. The two hits I saw are **** near suspendable. Especially the one by Asante Samuel who seemed to gloat about it after the fact. I hope someone kicks his ***.

I don't agree with your premise, but in the spirit of honest question/honest answer, I'd probably go with: "That family is on my ****ing television every time I turn it on!";):D

Next week's Monday night game is San Francisco at Arizona. Oy.

Hmm, learned something new I guess. I thought the "ground can't cause a fumble" would apply in this situation.

"The ground can't cause the fumble" only applies where they're down by contact (in the NFL); it's an expression which shortens the actual rule. By definition the play ends as soon as the player hits the ground under contact, so any fumble that occurs thereafter doesn't matter (since the play was already dead). If there was no contact, the play is still alive since the guy could have otherwise gotten up and continued running. Thus the fumble still counts.

Your interpretation is correct in college/high school football for the same reason - the play ends at those levels as soon as the play falls to the ground, with or without contact.

Schefter has it as well, and adds that Frazier has been named "interim coach."

Re: NFL 2010: Now Extended By Two More Posts

Looks like one loss and two "too close to call" for me; going against Knowshon Moreno in both of the latter, so, go Chargers run defense!

League 1: Losing 121.5 - 90.6, with Mike Tolbert left to play for me tonight. This is pretty much a loss barring some ridiculousness. My MVP: Greg Jennings (33.2). FU to Anquan Boldin (0.9) and Darren McFadden (3.2). Should've played: Thomas Jones (19.1) instead of Jamaal Charles (12.6) or McFadden; Emmanuel Sanders (9.5) instead of Boldin or Micheal Spurlock (4.1).

League 2: Winning 89.7 - 69.1, I'm done and my opponent has Moreno going tonight. My MVP: Nobody was really that good to call an MVP, but honorable mention to Michael Vick (23.3) and Terrell Owens (12.3). (How the Steelers score 35 points and Mendenhall is only good for 10.9 is beyond me.) Should have played: Mike Goodson (15.1) instead of Mendenhall or Jamaal Charles (12.6).

League 3: Winning 135.6 - 113.8, I have Brandon Lloyd going tonight and my opponent has Moreno and Matt Prater. My MVP: Baltimore defense (37.1); honorable mention to Peyton Hillis (23.3) and Chris Johnson (20.6). Should have played: a big one, Mike Wallace (27.0) instead of Calvin Johnson (14.1), Hillis, Johnson, or Steven Jackson (7.6).

I am going to win my 6th straight game 121-111. Went from 1-4 and dead last to sole posestion of third place, a game out of second and what will be a game and a half out of first. I will be deadly in the playoffs!

Two coaches fired in a row now after capitulating to the Packers. You're next, Mike Smith of Atlanta.

Although that would have to be one heck of beating.

Edit: Oops, was beaten to it over in the Packer thread. Feel free to sieve me.

Man I wish Green Bay would've played Buffalo later in the year. :D

So is Marvin Lewis on Deathwatch for giving up 49 to the Bills?

Re: NFL 2010: Now Extended By Two More Posts

The Steelers get their comeuppance! :D

In an unprecedented move, the NFL has fined the Pittsburgh Steelers for winning. The Steelers’ 35-3 victory over the Oakland Raiders drew a $500,000 fine from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

“I believe that parity is good for the game of football. The Steelers just don’t seem to understand that. This fine should send a very loud message to the Steelers organization; stop winning so much”.
