Re: NFL 2010: $25K Fine For Talking About Fines

They could market the rights to one of their network partners. ESPN wouldn't mind a Tuesday game for a month, to go along with MNF. Nor would NBC (that would make a great lead in for their 11:00 local newcasts, especially after the ratings disaster that was the Jay Leno experiment.) The NFL is looking to grow - the draft now takes three freaking days, an 18-game season is a foregone conclusion. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to see Jerry Jones and Roger Goodell at least exploring the option; or using this as leverage in the negotiations.

They just signed long term TV deals that don't expire until 2014. Instead of reopening them, they'll stick them on their own network in an effort to convince people that it's worth something despite having useful programming for about 60 hours a year.

It's at least something to put on the table at least. They might not get it from the players, but might get something else from them if the players dont want to play on tuesdays.

Personally, I could see em adding 2 weeks to the schedule, with one of them a game and an additional bye week as well.

Three weeks. Two games and a bye week. With the bonus that the second bye comes before/after a Tuesday/Thursday game.

Let's see...add three weeks to the season, that means that the entire playoff schedule would be during February sweeps. Their TV partners would love that.

If this Tuesday game does a nice TV number, do you think there's any chance the NFL looks into staging more Tuesday games? Maybe the first few weeks of the year?
God, I hope not. Please stop with that already. NFL football should be played on Sunday, and MNF and Thanksgiving should be the only exceptions.

And Saturdays. And Thursdays after Thanksgiving. And...

Why? I know I'm not saying no to more football.

Re: NFL 2010: $25K Fine For Talking About Fines

Right, which means I get to see more of it.
More of it would be available for you to see, absolutely. Do you currently watch SNF/MNF games when the team you root for isn't playing? Typically I don't, and I don't see why I would on Tuesday either. (Except for the fact that there isn't currently much regular TV I watch on Tuesday, but that varies from year to year.) Others who are more football-crazed than I am might differ, though.

I am...the NFL is overexposed as it is. It is bad enough we get college games pretty much every day of the week but now you want NFL games too? Call me old fashioned but I liked when it went Saturday-college, Sunday/Monday-pro.

I do. :o I'm not sure that I would though if it was on Tuesday too though - that might be overexposure (as Handy mentions). I do like to catch up on other shows (like House, etc) on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, & Saturday when I'm not watching football.

I like baseball everyday of the week, why would you not want football everyday if you are an actual fan?

Quick Question:

With the Eagles game being pushed back, fast forward to 2014: Super Bowl in The Meadowlands. Another Blizzard. Do you postpone the Super Bowl?

Of course you do. Football is a game for little girls in dresses. ;)

I don't think that was a catch, but I don't think there's enough to overturn.

Courtesy of TMQ:
Stats of the Week No. 10: Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers have combined for a streak of 39 touchdown passes and one interception.

WOW.

how does the democratic governor of PA 1) afford those front row seats??, 2) even GET those front row seats??

Sure, but no one is forcing you to watch. You act like this some would be some grave insult personally lodged against you by Goodell. If football was overexposed, don't you think people would, you know, stop watching it?

He's been a season ticket holder forever, since the 70s I think. He's done every single Eagles post-game show for the local sports network. Frankly, he knows more about football than politics I'd say.
