If you didn't see it the latest george gwoz press conference it is pretty interesting.
( posted on the du thread) Touches on freshmen and on wisconsin. It gives you an idea what you are up against in this league, which is a lot.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

"Michigan Tech is another team off to a blazing start. The Huskies are unbeaten in five games after beating and tying Northern Michigan, spanking Lake Superior 6–2, and taking three of four points from Minnesota State last weekend. After everyone slaps the Huskies on their collective back, look at the combined record of MTU’s opponents: 0–6-3.

When the Huskies start to play teams that can win — like 3–1 Wisconsin on Oct. 29 and 30 in Madison — reality will set in quickly."

"Reality will quickly set in? Does Tyler Buckentine wear a Badger sweater. He could have phrased it......When the Huskies visit Wisconsin they will find out how far they have come in terms of turning the program in the right direction. It will be a huge test for them. That would have made him look less biased in his article. Poor journalistic writing in my opinion.

Yeah, I really loved that...especially when Wisconsin hasn't proven anything to most people considering they lost to BU, beat Holy Cross and swept UAH at home...just a ********* writer who is hating on MTU>

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

lame.

my read. Wisconsin, coming off some points in Denver, will be complacent. meanwhile, Tech, having won and liked it, plus being rested, would like to do it again.
Tech takes points.

any thoughts on venturing into Madison during Freakfest weekend for the game?

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

A fat and lazy Wisconsin team that has gorged themselves on four WCHA points is probably the best scenario for us going into next weekend. Nevertheless, I'm not one to underestimate a DU team that will be refocused and playing hungry after a series with BC in which they were pretty much embarrassed in front of a big home crowd. If they can support their young goaltenders, I think the Pioneers could sweep that series, which would likely be very bad news for us going into Madtown.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

I don't know...I'm seeing a split with those two. DU just doesn't have the forwards and scoring punch they need, though the defense is deep. I think wisconsin is a better team but the altitude is a factor so DU wins at least one.
It's going to be hard for anyone to play Tech and not be confident, But Like Leonidas said when told to lay down his weapons," come and get them".

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

Andrew Kolb will once again be playing for his old NAHL team, now named the Michigan Warriors and based in Flint. I guess the USHL wasn't working out for him.

Welll I may be drunk due to 3 Dog fishbowls in under an hour and a half....(had to make last call of course)....

But I predict a split with DU and UW....also I predict a split with Tech and UW, I think this Tech team will show their power of the PP and be able to pull out a win 1 night over UW, which will hopefully show that this Tech team is serious this year

So according to this smart fellow, if WI sweeps DU, then WI is also no good because they will have only beaten DU in WCHA play and DU would then be 0-2 in the WCHA and 1-4-1 overall. I laugh a hearty laugh... and then dismiss his mindless dribble.

But really what does it matter. Tech could go undefeated for two full seasons and people would still refer to us as doormats, cellar dwellers, etc.

You do realize that going undefeated two years in a row would include back to back National Championships. They can't call ya a doormat when you're the honest to God champion. They might call it a fluke, but not a doormat. And honestly, they would only call it a fluke because they're just jealous Haters.

DU wins 4-2, Mankato beats CC, LSSU wins, NMU gets shutout by Miami, UAH loses to BGSU (wisconsin's big wins)...sounds to me like MTU is doing pretty well for itself ;)

**** Rboert Morris, they are always the best team in the nation...

Don't underestimate Western Michigan either. That new coach has built a real contender there in K-Zoo, and it only took two months! He's a lock for the Spencer Penrose. ;)

That guy Penrose is everywhere.! on hospitals, banks, museums, hotels, even brothels I'd bet.

Comments on last night. UMD seems not to look too good, but always finds a way to win. UND might not be quite what I thought. Miami seems really good, as does UNO. And this league is going to be a real dogfight. Go Tech.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

The mass destruction of things in the WCHA is to the Huskies benefit. With an improved team, and everybody else beating the hell out of each other, it could make for an interesting place in the standings. Chaos means we likely don't finish in the basement.

Respect? We don't need it. We just need to play hockey.

Speaking of playing hockey, what kind of a schedule is it where you have a weekend off, play in Wisconsin, have a weekend off, play Duluth. Two bye weeks following the two shortest roadtrips of the year.

I think next weekend will be a test for us due to more than just the opponent, the hostile environment, and the road trip. It is about this point in the season that any benefit from playing in August is gone. Everybody is up to speed now. Game on.

Blah, I was so used to hockey. And then there was none. There is football today. I guess Northwood is going to get the full energy I would have expended with a hockey series.

Well two bye weeks like that might not be too bad, lot's of coaching at the beginning of the year for the freshmen and getting guys healthy, however it is tough at the end.

I really want to see the pp operate well, Wisco is very good at clogging things up and our pp before was at best anemic. Wisco is highly penalized and aggressive physically. the pp has to operate well to counter that.

second I want to see good discipline with the team playing their position and not chasing. Good puck movement cannot happen without good positional play and it will keep us out of those 2 on 0 breakaway chances for them.

third I want to see us do better when the other team pressures us in our zone. This has been a big weakness and you can bet everyone has noticed. We have to get better on the breakout/ puck movement out. I'd love to see some odd man rushes we get because they are sending three men deep.
Forth, I want to see us learn to hang onto leads.

Fifth, I want to see us win crucial faceoffs more.

not asking for much is it.:D
