Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

Chill..... I realize the first game was an exhibition and it doesn't count in the standings but in my mind they played a game and won it. 1...2....3..... we want more!
Thats like Lions fans saying "but if you include the 4 wins we had in the preseason, we were 4-16!"

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

I repeat. Tech is not 4-0-2, Tech is 3-0-2. Counting to 3 shouldn't be challenging.

Wait, you mean that I paid money and cheered for the team, and it didn't count for anything? You mean the game doesn't exist? WHAT!?!?!

Blah, now I feel ripped off by the athletic department for putting up that farce and making a big deal about it "being the first game". Come (pay) to watch the Huskies open their 2010-11 Season. They really should have used the word exhibition and *does not count in the regular season standings and *stats from tonight's game are useless, even if a player were to score 5 goals or take 100 PIM in all advertisements. They just took the money from uneducated fans and ran. They made it homecoming weekend to squeeze a little bit of nostalgia from the out of town alumni.

-----

Of course, I am being dramatic and joking a little bit. I didn't actually pay anything to go to the game that night, and I feel pity for anyone that did. Paying full price for games that don't really exist? Yeah, our addictions to sports have our wallet by the balls.
-----

GO HUSKIES!!! It won't be easy, but that is what makes this journey enjoyable.

Also, if you're going to count games that really don't count, Tech isn't undefeated, they lost in Europe.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

what is with you guys??!! we've started the season 4-0-2. we've beaten eNMU. we've gotten 3 WCHA points. the WHOLE freshman class is playing. Royer, Cousens, Kattelus coming into their own. Baker is still on the sidelines. Genoe. we are scoring goals like crazy. c'mon. we're just getting started.

It's 3-0-2, you can't honestly count Ni****ing

And get off the **** koolaid man

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

3-0-2, not 4-0-2 ;)

Lets not get ahead of ourselves...have to win at Kohl Center to get to 4-0-2

Sorry, but I've watched way too much terrible Tech hockey to believe that its turned around after wins over NMU, LSSU and Mankato. Have to see what they do against UW and UMD to see what this team is really like.

I hate to burst anyone's bubble but I've been to the 'Hole Center and Tech is beat before they even lace them up. Their outrageous fans and and the way reffs call games Tech is at a disadvantage from the start. I vowed to myself to never step foot in that place again. (Hoping for a split there.....would be nice). The old geezer there with his signs can put them where the sun don't shine!

When did big blue get another screen name?

Anyone have a link to that stupid MTU spirit shirt, "I am Husky?"

In other news, Cousens did well against Michigan Tech this weekend and on Tuesday.

Well as far as Wisconsin, it will of course be a much bigger test, it will of course be in a hostile environment, and it will be tough, but I think the team can handle things. They are far more confident, and won't run for the exits if Wisconsin scores. I expect a split, and some great action. We have a tough stretch of games coming up with almost all these teams highly regarded, but I think we can get some wins, if we fix some of the bigger issues, and continue with the things we are doing well.

I remember a certain big guy giving the finger to the Wisconsin fans. Tech swept at the Kohl that weekend.

its going to be tough, but I'm still hopeful.

Thank you for the kind words Brent. its been a long time since I've been called "cool". a long time. a very very long time.

Re: I Love the 70's ($1 to VH1)

I'm not saying its a bad thing...I'm just saying the blind othersiders who think this is a sign of our unbeatability are in for a rude awakening when they see that this team is capable of streaks of not being the godawful worst in the nation, but it doesn't last for long ;)
FYP ;)

IIRC, you couldn't manage to count to 6.

Ole, ole ole ole, ole, ole
You're a bad bad person.

It has to be a tougher test. Wisconsin has actually won a game, unlike our last 3 opponents. And the Kohl Center is tough.

But let us not kid ourselves into believing that Wisconsin is this magical team of worldbeaters. This is hockey, not football :P Wisconsin lost a lot from last year's team. They return goaltenders, but took hits to both offense and defense. They lost 7 of their top 8 scorers, and 3 defensemen. They did shut out Holy Cross and Huntsville (26 saves, 17 saves), and killed all 11 penalties combined in those two games. They lost to BU by giving up 3 power play goals on 5 opportunities. I would like to think that we have a power play that can make them pay, and hopefully two weeks of practice will lend a little more 5X5 stability and better play on the back end.

They are predicted to be a middle of the pack WCHA team. Theresa picked them 6th, Tyler 4th, Media 5th, and the coaches decided on 7th.

Are they likely better than us? One would have to assume so. But that doesn't mean that we have to annoint them with a sweep before the games are even played. Gone are the days of traffic barrels and road cones, and hopefully this Huskies team comes to play both nights.

True enough, but they still went to the title game of the Frozen Four last year. Even if much of their leadership is gone, they're still almost certainly a home ice team, probably an NCAA team, and a severe threat for the Broadmoor if not as much the MacNaughton. We can't forget that and predict that our Huskies will maul the Badgers (huskyfan :o).

Having said that, it's likely we'll come away with one point, and I'd give fair odds to us taking two points from a Wisconsin team expecting to mop the floor with us.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

If that's at all true, and he was literally skating with the Tech team, the NCAA would be on Russell faster than flies on sheet. Recall what happened to Buetow at CC in '92-'93.

It's not official practice, it's pickup hockey in the summer that the current/former/other (Jeff Finger, Dwight Helminen etc.) players skate at to stay in shape.

Anytime you can manage at least a split at the Kohl, it's a good thing. Doesn't matter what team you are.

This UW team had a lot of holes to plug going into the season, but I expect that in addition to the guys who are ready to step into bigger roles, Eaves and his assistants have recruited well and given themselves a lot of talented options.

A split, therefore, would be fantastic.
