Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

what is with you guys??!! we've started the season 4-0-2. we've beaten eNMU. we've gotten 3 WCHA points. the WHOLE freshman class is playing. Royer, Cousens, Kattelus coming into their own. Baker is still on the sidelines. Genoe. we are scoring goals like crazy. c'mon. we're just getting started.

I'm a realist. We have 11 wins in the previous two seasons, and while this start is decent enough, we have yet to show the ability to defend an early lead. We also have yet to play teams like UND, St. Cloud, and underrated UW/Denver.

let's get these guys rested up, caught up on school and social life and then take on Wisconsin. I'm predicting a split.

And 4 this year already.

Just sayin'.

3-0-2, not 4-0-2 ;)

Lets not get ahead of ourselves...have to win at Kohl Center to get to 4-0-2

Sorry, but I've watched way too much terrible Tech hockey to believe that its turned around after wins over NMU, LSSU and Mankato. Have to see what they do against UW and UMD to see what this team is really like.

We have three wins that actually count for something, two of which were against teams predicted to do about as well as us. Also, you're a disillusioned Gopher fan.

Just sayin'. ;)

I love all the Facebook posts I see about how "great" the 3-0-2 Michigan Tech Huskies are this year...No one seems to realize that its 5 games into the season, and we couldn't seal the deal twice against NMU and Mankato...There was that completely unexpected win against LSSU too ;) Good thing I'll be too hammered to realize the UW is putting up another 14 goal weekend against my team in two weeks when they send us all back to reality

I'm not even going to Madison this year. Halloween? No thanks. Plus I'm sick of seeing Tech get absolutely rolled by the Badgers. I'll miss going out drinking with Jordy and Co. but, eh, what can you do. Instead I have tickets to go to the Lee Brice and Lost Highway concert at I Love This Bar and Grill Saturday night and a Halloween party Friday night.

 beats being 0-6-0 and losing to the University of Toronto.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

I agree generally. My expectations have ratcheted up quite a bit to tell the truth. I'm not satisfied with moral victories any longer or good efforts or whatever. I think we can be competitive, but when you are close, little things become big. We have to solve our main problems quickly and if we do we will be right there at the end. There is nothing I would like more than to be winning games at away barns in front of thousands of disbelieving fans.

Either way, you can't tell me that you expected this. Or maybe even hoped for this. Enjoy it while it lasts, however long that is.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

I think it says something that the teams we have played are winless this season. In addition to their results against Tech: NMU lost to Duluth, Mankato had two ties against St. Lawrence, and LSSU tied Duluth and was swept by Notre Dame. It is a small sampling of games, but I think that there is something to be said for level of competition.

However, you can only play the team in front of you, and we haven't lost yet after 5 games. I'll take it. Would I like to see a more consistent effort for 60 minutes? Yes, and who wouldn't. But should I still be proud that this team hasn't found a way to lose a game yet this season and is already 60% of the way to last year's win total? Hell, yes.

Nobody, even the Kool-aid drinkers expects us to win the hardware this year (league, or otherwise). All we asked for was a team that could be competitive on a nightly basis, avoid losing every game, not finish in the basement, and maybe not be eliminated from home ice by the start of February. The very best we could dream of is a repeat of 2006-07. So far this team has given us what we asked for. The expectations shouldn't change just five games in because we won a few. This is still a young team, and there is reason to be optimistic, but there is also reason to be cautious.

The answer usually lies somewhere in the middle when this case comes up. Tech is not amazing because they are undefeated in their first five games, nor do they suck this year because of the history of losing. The equilibrium is in the middle, and that is **** better than where this team was in the past.

I quietly hoped for something like this, but I did not in any way expect it. I'll enjoy it while I can, but that Boosh Factor down in my sig will remain a big, fat 10 for now.

I couldn't have said it better. I agree 100% with your statements.

I'm not saying its a bad thing...I'm just saying the blind youngsters who think this is a sign of our unbeatability are in for a rude awakening when they see that this team is capable of streaks of not being the godawful worst in the nation, but it doesn't last for long ;)

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

I'm running on the expectation that they'll finish the season with 1 WCHA win and 3 total wins. Having high expectations and realizing that they team still sucks got old a couple years ago.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

agreed but you need to beat the bottom teams to finish well. If Tech is to be anything other than a also ran team, they HAVE to beat teams like mankato. I do think they are a lot better. in all aspects of the game. Goaltending especially. But as Russell says, there is a long way to go.

Do you realize the league has been saying that about us for the better part of 30 years? Be glad we are 4-0-2. Tech has a week off to prepare for the Badger's. I'd be way happy if we get a split in their barn. I know it has been a long dryspell at Tech but so far they have played to my expectations.Take it a week at a time man.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

I repeat. Tech is not 4-0-2, Tech is 3-0-2. Counting to 3 shouldn't be challenging.

Chill..... I realize the first game was an exhibition and it doesn't count in the standings but in my mind they played a game and won it. 1...2....3..... we want more!
