Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

That one flies right over my head...
A) I haven't been on the forums long
B) I'm just returning from motorcycle forum season

So I'll respond with...
whoops/Touche/I agree

The short version is that it's an inside joke. The "Othersiders" are mostly old and quiet, so to show their appreciation when the team scores a goal, they click their false teeth instead of cheering/clapping/pretending the team is good. :p

They can also make noise with their canes and walkers.

In all fairness, that was back when Shirtless would come and clean them out on food.

He was like Homer at the All You can Eat Seafood Buffet?

'Tis no man. 'Tis a remorseless eatin' machine!

Well, in reality, yes, Calumet's been good, but how many players in recent history have been D1 caliber? In fact, if I'm not mistaken, only 13 Calumet players have EVER played D1 hockey, and 9 of those were at Tech, with the most recent being Derby, obviously.

Congratulations on your first post on this site that actually makes sense. I don't know what BD is referring to but the facts don't back it up.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

I'd also like to hear BigDaddy's explanation.

Tech got a stick salute from INCH. I haven't completely drank the kool aid, but it's good to see us doing some things that haven't been done for years.

STICK SALUTE

In spite of our occasional ribbing, we here at INCH are big Michigan Tech fans, especially the Huskies’ status as one of the college game’s early powerhouse programs. And while Tech isn’t quite back to the days of John MacInnes, Tony Esposito, and Mike Zuke, things are a little brighter in Houghton this week after the Huskies rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat rival Northern Michigan in Marquette Friday and walloped Lake Superior State the following night — Michigan Tech’s first back-to-back wins since sweeping Northern Michigan on Dec. 19-20, 2008. Also, the Huskies’ 10 goals were the most during a weekend since sweeping Alaska Anchorage by 9-0 and 5-3 scores on Oct. 27-28, 2006.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

the attendance at the Blue Line Lunch has been down the last several years, so we decided to go with just a few throughout the season.

I've never seen the student side sold out. I've never seen the other siders sold out either. I hope to see both tonight.

don't think we have to worry about this team being over confident, penalty ridden or any of the other stupid mistakes they use to make. this is a pretty mature team.

GO HUSKIES!!

Well I believe the same congratulations may be in order to you.
Actually, nah. You still don't ever make sense. Thanks though!

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

I was thinking that a lot of our good fortune early in the season could be attributed to going to Europe in August, when everyone else wasn't playing that level of hockey. And I was wondering how far that extra experience would carry us.

Then I noticed that half of our ten goals on the season have come from freshmen. Freshmen, obviously, we not permitted on the trip.

Maybe we have had a breakthrough in recruiting. Maybe we have just had a bit of luck early in the season, since there isn't as much tape out there for teams to prepare for our adjustments to the newer systems installed for the team.

I guess what it comes down to is that I am trying to find any explanation that explains 2-0 and the way this team has looked (outside of the first ten minutes on Friday). After so many years, I am having trouble buying that we are all of a sudden playing a better brand of hockey.

Hard to sample how good we actually are when we played a team picked to finish middle of the pack in the CCHA, and team predicted near the bottom of the same league. We might very well struggle when we actually get into WCHA play.

As a note, the hometown sports editor (Brandon Veale) predicted us not to finish in the basement. He even mentioned something about 14 points by Christmas :P Somebody else has been drinking the Koolaid!

We will see where things go from here. Tonight is a huge test for the team.

Actually 7 of the 10 goals are from players that went to Europe. Gordic is a frosh because of injury last year...he was eligible to play in Europe.

I also understand your reservations about this team, I'm giving them tonight and this upcoming series against Mankato to prove themselves, then we'll see where we're sitting...then of course we play Wisconsin in Madison after a weekend off

I think there will be plenty of struggling to come, don't worry. :o

If things go well tonight, I'm not only going to click my dentures, but also planning to pop my knuckles and wiggle my eyebrows. Hopefully the ol' ticker can stand the excitement.

Re: Tech Game Tonight - You Would Never Know from the Website...

Re: Tech Game Tonight - You Would Never Know from the Website...

I hope to see both tonight.

What? There is a hockey game tonight? Does Tech even have an SID anymore? Who is running the website? Seriously, we're undefeated in the first time in forever and playing our biggest rival and they can't even throw a story up that says "Hey, the hockey team plays tonight. Oh and by the way, it's our biggest rival we could really use the support."

Packing the rink might start with telling people when the games are going to be played or at least giving them a little bit of hype. If nothing else you could hire a communications student and give them an "A" to write a paragraph each week promoting Tech hockey that they could paste into the web site...

The *free* 750 student tickets for the Northern game are all gone, and have been since last Thursday, and while I was up getting my *free* Mankato tickets today, someone was trying to buy 4 student tickets next to each other on the home side of the arena, and the ticket office actually had to search to find 4 seats together on that entire side of the arena, looks like all but about a couple dozen single seats have been sold on the home side, not sure what the "other side" will look like, but I have a feeling that we could hit an attendance number tonight that we haven't seen in a while

But yes, the marketing is officially horrible

I was looking back through stats, the last time Tech was 3-0 (Not counting exhibition games) was the 1993-1994 season
