For lettering, I've used the sports shop at MOA. Never unsatisfied.

Re:What's in a name(plate)

Anyone know of a good place to get the name plate pit back on the jersey I won? It needs to be the exact same lettering as was on there before, or I won't go through with it. No way am I butchering it with a not authentic name plate. Next question...have we had these black jersies long enough that conner would have worn the same style? It's a #25 jersey and I'm not sure if I want to put nielson on the back, especially if conner wore this same vintage jersey.

Congrats on the win... I'm always looking to buy if you get bored with it.
;)

As someone else already posted, no it's not a Conner jersey as he was gone already. However you could go John Kivisto OR Peter Rohn OR Carl Nielsen as all three wore that jersey. Or better yet, get a velcro nameplate of all three and swap 'em out from time to time.

Judy at Superior Monogramming (906.482.0561) does the names and numbers for Tech. She is pretty fair on the pricing, but be very clear about what you want them to do before you walk out the door. One time when I was younger (and dumber) I had them take the player's name off the back to have my name put on. They distroyed the player's nameplate so that they could recycle a couple of the common letters between our names. Another time I had them make a nameplate and they didn't have any nameplates in stock so they put it on cotton material. Umm yeah, see how that works after it is washed.

In the end, don't sweat it too much because with all the images I've shot over the years, you would be suprised how different some of the jerseys are on the ice that are supposed to be identical. The first year they look identical, but after that they forget what font was used, what size, what exact color of twill - It's almost funny when you get 4-5 guys in the same shot and look at the differences. So regardless of what they do for you, it might not be the same as the original, but there is a darn good chance it will look like someone's jersey on the ice.

Below are a couple shots for you to reference. There is the standard font on the Nolan jersey and then there is the Eli "oh gosh please let it all fit on the jersey and still be three color" narrow version of the font.

Yeah, it gets screwed up a lot because OT sports does the brand new jersey nameplates and numbers and Superior Monogramming will do the during the season stuff.

As the regular season approaches, JR "the boa" has the chokehold going again and gone is the free wheeling, creative hockey that was played in Europe. Waaay to risky, don't have the talent to play that way. Dump and chase, 12th place, off the glass, kick our a**, here we go again.

12th place?? why so optimistic??

Post 100 already, I better slow down...

Actually SM does all of the nameplates and any number changes. OT only numbers the jerseys before their shipment to Tech. (Or at least that is what Judy told me.)

You would be suprised how many they used to do in a year. I'm not sure if they still do it now, but when Sertich was coach, Tech used to put a nameplate on the back of a jersey for every recruit that visited so one with their name would be hanging in a locker when they toured the facilities.

If you want "freewheeling and creative", go watch some tape of the 80s Oilers. This is 2010, this is NCAA hockey, and most importantly, this is the WCHA. An 8-5 loss is still a loss.

That is what I thought and she told me before, too. But, we just did a jersey order with the team and they come in completed, except for two of our jerseys (one missing numbers and one missing a nameplate). They also forgot to ship Holmberg's nameplate and forgot to sew on Cousen's captain C. So OT 2-dayed those three items and then sent all four to Superior Monogramming to get it done.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

Yes, but they will be in town for the trip.

Just because I won't be in the town that you're in does not mean that I won't be in a town.

I am extremely disappointed and hurt.

Is this a person that I know?

Why do you claim to be a Tech fan?

your post makes a couple of assumptions I disagree with. First one is that the lock is an untenable system and won't work in the WCHA. The second one is that, it automatically incorporates the dump and chase. And the third is that due to the above Tech will automatically lose most of the games.

I disagree. The NJ Devils showed that the lock is viable and remains so. A number of the pro teams use it, and ND went to the finals with it a couple of years ago. Second, will it work in the WCHA. yes, but the whole team has to sell out to the system, and it has to be capable of doing something else as well. third, with the advent of special teams, specifically penalty kills that are more aggressive, and pp's the same, these seem to me to have almost eclipsed the regular 5x5 scheme in importance.

So can Tech execute the system. Yes but the defensemen are keys. Poor defense means it won't work, and the forwards have to come back more aggressively than they have. At least in the games I've seen in person, our forwards are suspect here, leaving the defenders to deal with the other team for too long.

I have no problem with a counterattacking style as long as we do indeed counterattack, and take advantage of our opportunities. We have fallen down in that area too.
This is not the dump and chase even though BC seems to do it fairly well, and it begs the question,"is it better to dump and chase or turn the puck over at center ice?"
So imho, maybe but I'd say it's too early to be so negative.

So imho, maybe but I'd say it's too early to be so negative.

When you're JSR, it's never a bad time to be a Negative Nancy.

However, three things have to happen for this team to do alright and for Russell to earn an extension:

1. Hockey is often a game of special teams, especially in this league. The PK has to be better - 85% success or higher should be the goal (It was 83-84% over the final 15 or so games last year). The powerplay was better last year (16%-ish), and it needs to take another step forward. Whether we're playing the classic 1-2-2 when 5x5 or not, we have to score in 5x4 and 5x3 situations.

2. Goaltending has to be a lot better. I know the team hung Robinson and Genoe out to dry a lot last year, but they made their fair share of errors too. It'd be nice to have a legit 1a/1b situation going again, but if that doesn't work out, one of them has to step up and be the answer.

3. Above all, they have to stay healthy. If we have the depth to be able to sit guys who aren't playing up to scratch, then we can make stuff happen. If not, and we find ourselves rolling three, hastily assembled lines for most of the season, then we're boned.

Couldn't agree more on your 3 points. On point one, the second half numbers are pretty good for special teams.

Over the last 14 games of the season here's the stats:
PP 18%, PK 86.8%
Last 22 games of the season December to the End:
PP 17.8%, PK 80%

Hopefully the huskies can have the special teams form they ended the season with...not the one they started the season with (First 14 games PP-14.3% PK-62.6%).

I was going to look up what kind of special teams stats they had in europe but I don't see any box scores anywhere?

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

Don't have the numbers, but going on what I remember about the games, the powerplay over in Europe was probably at least as good as the end of last season.
