New WCHA is dead

Re: New WCHA is dead

I haven't seen any of that. It's more of a "Welcome to the club, Tech fans! Here's soap to wash the blood off your hands." :)
Tech would love to play UND on a semi-regular basis. Unfortunately, UND will only do it in That Godforsaken town in North Dakota. No return trip. Well no return trip, no games.

I'd love that too. Other than Anchorage, Houghton was the one road trip I didn't get to go to in the WCHA. It wasn't too long ago that Brad Berry mentioned in a article how he'd like for UND to make a trip to Houghton for a series. I forgot who it was here but someone mentioned that UND was asking for 2 for 1 deal? If so, quite disappointing to be stuck on that as well as asking for that. UND did a 1 for 1 with Canisius for cripes sake!

Really?
Tell Bemidji State.
Tell Canisius (went to Buffalo first!).
Tell Mankato State.
Tell Minnesota (played in Vegas and MSP).
Tell UAA.
Tell Wisconsin.

That's since the start of the 2017-18 season.

Tell your MTU friends to get in line to try to get the 2022 UND destination game. Sounds like Las Vegas again.

Apparently all of those are more attractive than Houghton. you tell me. I think we've been in line for some time.

The new ccha will be like bums with cardboard signs on the side of road begging for non conferance home games. Only then the ccha brain trust finds out only Tom Bodett is volunteering to go up

those icy dead end roads in a chained up buss.

You are both Right......You are all scum.
This. The schools that on one hand complain how they’re “not competitive” and “not financially committed” while on the other have forced UAA and UAF to pay hundreds of thousands (millions potentially) in travel costs.

Gee, I wonder how different things would be if UAA and UAF could’ve used that money to invest in infrastructure?

Re: New WCHA is dead

I agree with Dilks (and now I need a shower).

I believe the problem was money (I hope nobody is surprised): Would UND get a cut of BTN revenues? What about UND's regional television deal with Midco Sports Network? How about gates?

Then toss in that B1G elitist attitude: North Dakota? Puh-leese. What do they have*?

*Just a Med School with two-way physician training agreements with Mayo Clinic; a law school; a premier worldwide aviation school; a world recognized energy and environment research center; engineering; business; 120 graduate degree options; a Carnegie "Doctoral Universities – High research activity" university; top athletic facilities including REA, a domed football stadium, and a domed practice field (football) with a 300M indoor track.

Here's the problem.... Olive Garden is your 5 star pie hole filler in the middle of a bean field close to nowhere on a 2 lane road . Thats the problem.

They'd have top notch facilities to play each other 26 times a year? Most teams would need to book the 2 extra games at home, and sell them out, in order to break even on the trip to ONE Alaska school.

FSU has had a tough go on ice the last couple years but when the nWCHA formed they were one of the stronger teams in the group. It's a lot easier to overlook subpar facilities when the on-ice product raises the tide of the league overall.

It’s far more difficult to get the competitive on ice product playing in a high school arena.

Yes, I’m sure Minnesota State, whose non conference schedule has consisted of the following teams the last two seasons, all of whom have played in Mankato over that time, will struggle to get games:

Minnesota
Minnesota Duluth
North Dakota
St. Cloud State
Boston University
Arizona State

Re: New WCHA is dead

Yeah I don’t get that begging to get nonconference games thing. In the last few years, Lake State has hosted teams that could have easily said no to traveling to the Soo like Denver, Michigan, Michigan State, and Arizona State. Notre Dame is also expected to come up, too.

Re: New WCHA is dead

NMU has hosted Michigan State, SCSU & Cornell the last two seasons & BSU has hosted SCSU, NoDak & Merrimack. I'm not seeing the issue either

Michigan AD: Hey coach, Bowling Green sent a request to schedule a series for 2022-2023 and the following year with each team hosting the other.
Michigan Coach: That sounds intriguing, but don't they play in the CCHA?
Michigan AD: Oh yeah. [/deletes e-mail]

Re: New WCHA is dead

With St Thomas in Minnesota possibly going D1 in all other sports, I believe they would have to go D1 in hockey as well. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that's the rule.

If that is the case, it'd be pretty logical for them to join the CCHA? Also would give the league 8 teams to balance out the schedule. Has anyone heard any rumors about their hockey program? The article below said they'd look at the WCHA but obviously that league will either no longer exist or morph significantly, they'd end up in the CCHA.

Even with the Summit invitation, St. Thomas still needs another home for football and hockey, which are not sponsored by the Summit League. While hockey has looked at the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, football has requested membership in the FCS Pioneer Football League, commissioner Patty Viverito said.

Re: New WCHA is dead

You realize that you can get WH in Ohio, right? I mean, the conference will still have a WH in Bowling Green

I know. I've been to BG many times and we stayed in the Hampton right behind WH. Also loved the little diner downtown...…………..not sure if it is still open.

As an aside, my in-laws lived on Sugar Island (near the end of E Village Rd) before retiring to Arizona. I miss visiting out there.
