I'm not saying Cameron Diaz has a hot face, I'm just saying... :D

I'm picking up what you're putting down. And I stand by my statement. Cam is not a pretty girl in the face, 99% of the time. I think I have at least a 98% non-handsome rate. ;)

Dragon Tattoo was very good. Rooney Mara (granddaughter of Wellington Mara, so she knows a thing or two about super rich families) was terrific. Daniel Craig was much better as a thoughtful guy than he is as an action figurine. The chemistry between them was believable, which given the bizarre dynamic in the movie is saying a lot.

Just can't wait for 1994.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

I saw two movies this weekend while the kiddos were at Grandmas... which seems to be about half of my yearly number these days. Saw Mission: Impossible GP with St. Clown on Friday. I'm not much of an action movie guy, but I loved it. I was even able to overlook Tom Cruise being a real life d-bag, which isn't easy.

I went to see The Descendants with my wife the next night. Being an Alexander Payne movie, I had high hopes for it (one of his other movies, Election, is one of my favorites). I don't know how I felt about it. It was interesting, and I admired it, but I'm not sure I liked it. I guess I'd give it a moderate recommendation.

Watched "Sanshiro Sugata" (Akira Kirusawa's first movie, 1943).

Pretty good for a debut. Definitely could see that he started with the same style of story-telling that he finished with at the end of his career. Unfortunately, a few minutes of the movie were cut because of war-time entertainment laws (dunno much about that part, I need to do some research on that) and that footage was lost. Those parts were "filled in" by basically just using words on the screen to say what happened, and it worked, but still would have loved to see this in its original form.

Basically about judo vs jujitsu (which is better/more traditional/honorable) and a self-discovery movie. I liked it, although if it wasn't his first movie (which gives him a ton of leeway, IMO), I'd like it a little less.

Mrs. P and I saw MI4 last night, the first movie we've been to in a long time. A good two-large-bags-of-popcorn action flick. Nice to see Ving Rhames make a cameo in the final scene.

Ronin's on.

Natasha McElhone? De Niro? Skarsgard? Reno? Car chases that are phenomenal? Wait, AND a good story?

Yeah, can't NOT watch it if it's on.

I saw Moneyball (late to the game as always - my mom even saw it before I did). It was pretty good - never seemed like the kind of book they could make a movie from, but it worked. The one thought I can't get out of my head is... that looked NOTHING like Raul Ibanez! :p

I asked Google Maps for walking directions from the Shire to Mordor. Here's its repsonse:

Walking directions are in beta.
Use caution – One does not simply walk into Mordor.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Really? Is this a real question?
Call me meme deficient, if you'd like. Has there been something going around using that quote? I don't spend a tremendous amount of time scouring the net.

I don't get it.
Have you not read the Lord of the Rings books or seen the movies? It's a direct quote they used when a character asked how to get to Mordor.

Nope, haven't read them, and haven't seen the movies. I don't like that kind of fantasy stuff.

Public Enemies was on USA tonight. Even in cut form, dang good movie.

And a movie mentioned within this movie, Manhattan Melodrama starring Clark Gable, is also pretty good. I Netflixed it out of curiosity, and was not disappointed. It even had a hockey scene. I KNOW!
