New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

There's probably going to be a bit of disappointment from Harry Potter.

Considering they have shown' half the movie on TV leading up to it, I'm not surprised. I was watching a HP marathon last weekend on ABC family and they were showing different scenes from the movie every hour. I really don't think there is much left I haven't seen. I'll go see it next week when the hysteria has calmed a little

Bad Teacher was so much more funny when your a teacher...because every "teacher" they protrayed is somoene on your staff.

On a side note....I see Dry Humping making a come back.

Especially if you're an English teacher....

Yeah, not to mention how the plot was spoiled by some dead trees with ink on them that were released years ago.

Seriously, this isn't the Sixth Sense, it's not like there's a surprise waiting at the end. Even if you hadn't read the books, you'd still be able to guess the end with a pretty remarkable accuracy.

Saw the first 5 movies and part of 6, but never saw 7: part 1. I'll wait til they wind up on TV, maybe the 2nd run theater.

Harry and Voldemort walk away hand in hand and move to Iowa so they can marry legally?

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

I have a huge list of movies on my DVR (from various free preview weekends) and now we are getting down to the point where the DVR is nearly full. Among the list:

Invictus
Goal II: Living The Dream
How To Tame Your Dragon
Across the Universe
the 2010 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction concert
Enemy At The Gates
Bette Midler: The Showgirl Must Go On
Gran Torino
G-Force (the one with the guinea pigs)
Ordet
Robin Hood (the one with Russell Crowe--but I taped it to see Alan Doyle from Great Big Sea as Alan A'Dale)
Shrek Forever After
Therese
Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Legend of the Guardians
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Coraline
Lennon Naked
Pirate Radio

I might just have to have a movie day tomorrow. I've also got 75 episodes of M*A*S*H, this entire season of Deadliest Catch, and ELCAsoccer DVRs Royal Pains, Necessary Roughness, and Bones.

I liked How to Tame Your Dragon. I constantly wondered why the adults were Scottish, but whatever. :)

Except, of course if you're a teacher in Madison; then you feel slighted and have some hack reporter write a column about how badly your feelings are hurt.

Oh my god...seriously? My Favorite part:

Another high school teacher adds, "I would hope people would recognize that this is a comedy and that it's not any kind of window into real schools. It's no more accurate than a television program like 'Grey's Anatomy,' with the medical staff always having sex in the supply rooms."

No ****. I highly doubt that anyone has gone to this moving thinking it is a real life look into the classroom.

What I was saying: I know the overachieving, quirky teacher, I know they crazy 70's party guy history teacher, etc.

Nope, Science.

Yep, this was definitely my history teacher in 7th grade. I suppose the only reason I remember him is because he was actually a damm good teacher, but he definitely fit that description. I still remember, he took a group of us to DC for a class trip, and we had a get-together for the whole group and our parents a couple weeks after to share pictures and such at his house. He grilled burgers and hot dogs and we hung out on the patio, and after we were done his wife walks out with a cake and yells "who wants better than sex cake???". about half of the parents cringed and were horrified, the other half laughed their asses off. Apparently some parents didn't think better than sex cake was appropriate for 7th graders.

The first two are must-sees. The last one is meh.

I know I'm having a movie day, probably Sunday. 13 Assassins and The Book Of Eli, along with one of Henry Rollins' Spoken Word shows.

Saw it.

Meh.

I get that they had to remove a lot from the book to streamline the story (as they have done with pretty much every film from Prisoner of Azkaban on), but sometimes it does go too far. There's so much left out just to focus on Harry, Ron and Hermione that it seems like the sheer depth of the battle at Hogwarts is lost in the background. THe whole thing seemed a little rushed, to be honest.

I liked it. The pacing was infinitely better than the previous movie with very few lulls in the action and they weren't afraid to have violence when the script called for it.

From what I remembered of the book the whole thing at Hogwarts was rushed and only focused on Harry/Ron/Hermione. You didn't find out that all these big characters died until Rowling put it in a footnote at the end. I thought it did a better job of presenting it than the book but I haven't read it since it came out so I may have forgotten and focused on the things that ****ed me off about it.

Watched the Lawrence Olivier and Richard Burton versions of Hamlet over the weekend. Burton's usual scenery-chewing, which typically I love, doesn't come off well at all by that comparison.

Not to move the focus of the thread onto the books, but your comment strikes me with this thought: With exception to the two chapters throughout all seven books (the first chapters in books 6 and 7), Harry is participates in or witnesses the events in some fashion or another. It made sense to me that you don't know what happened to most of the characters in the battle of Hogwarts while the battle carries on because the focus of the series was a third person omniscient narrative for Harry alone, everything and everyone else was simply third person narrative.

I plan on seeing the move in a couple weeks, when I have a day off in the middle of the week. It's getting pretty solid reviews, 97% at rottentomatoes.com.

The death of Fred was pretty big in the book I remember. Lupin and Tonks was similar to the movie...Harry didn't realize they were dead until he walked through the great hall and saw them lying there. I think the movie does a good job of making the other characters come alive, with their humor and such. I would have liked to see more of the battle, especially the fight between Ron's Mom nad Bellatrix. I did like the first ending, when they had the 3 standing there on the bridge, clearly emotional...but at the same time, I got this "well what do we do now?" feeling from it.

Overall I left the movie much more pleased than after part 1. I thought it was well done and I really enjoyed it.

Black Swan: Wow. Aranofsky is one of the few directors that would dare release a film like that.

Tron Legacy: Meh.
