Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Identity Thief - Not quite as enjoyable as Due Date (similar stories) but enjoyable. There are a number of LOL moments that make it worthwhile and the story has some heart.
This is essentially the same that I felt about it. It was entertaining enough, not great, but it kept me interested.

Trouble With The Curve.

Predictable, but I really enjoyed it.

I hope Hollywood doesn't mess this up. This is a story that needs to be told.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Last weekend, I watched an eponymous documentary on the knuckleball. Talked about the history of the pitch and the old timers who had success with it, but mainly followed R.A. Dickey and Tim Wakefield around for awhile. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.

I saw Ted the other day,and now it's on hbo again. TV Guide gave it four stars. Way overrated, but the show does have its moments. Giovanni Ribisi's dancing is a highlight.

I saw that somewhat recently, too. Wished their was a little more science/etc about the knuckleball and history of how it came about, but I still enjoyed it.

Really enjoyed that, though I'm an unabashed fan of R.A. Dickey so I was biased.

Even my wife enjoyed it. We also watched '42' and thoroughly enjoyed the story.

Just got back from finally seeing Pacific Rim. That was fun. Really enjoyed it.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Flipping a coin between RED 2 and 2 Guns. I need some mindless violence after a crappy week in not so happy valley

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Pacific Rim

Took two teenage boys and myself and it cost me over $70. Holy crap!

Haven't actually bought concessions in several years and we all just ordered away and I had to do a double take when I saw $42 on the register. Oh well, it's only money... I guess.

The movie was good if not great. CGI was outstanding and the battles were cool. Character development and humor were average.

The parallels to Independence Day (this was essentially the same movie with a little Armageddon thrown in and minus the laughs/heart that those two movies have) were disappointing. I guess there really aren't very many new ideas.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Also saw Beasts of the Southern Wild over the weekend.

The story was just okay, but the performance by the young actress was worthy of the attention (nominations) it got.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

21 and Over. Much closer to Superbad than Project X which is a good thing.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Saw Despicable Me 2 this weekend, because the choices were limited and the gf didn't see that excited about 2 Guns or Red 2.

Was entertaining. I never saw the first one, but that didn't hurt the plot! ;)

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Matthew McConaghey seems to be doing a lot of arty-indie movies lately, Killer Joe, for one. The movie was blah, but he was excellent. Looking forward to seeing "Mud." Hopefully that is the movie Netflix sends next.

I want to see Mud, too. I looked it up when it was in theaters back in May, but it wasn't playing anywhere in town. Limited releases for good movies are so frustrating. It's rare that I go to the theater, and I took the chance to see one movie before my surgery because I wasn't going out for a while after that. Ended up seeing Pain + Gain instead. While not a bad movie, I expect Mud would have been much better.

Aftershock by Eli Roth is the other one I'm really curious about. His (Eli's) tweeter is buzzing with that.
